Puskar/Associated Press 1 Comment Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa scored the 474th goal of his career during Wednesday’s 3-2 shootout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins to move into sole possession of 50th place on the NHL ‘s all-time goals list, per Sportsnet Stats . The 36-year-old winger reached the milestone just two minutes, 41 seconds into the second period, when his wrist shot from inside the left circle slipped through a crowd of bodies to beat Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. The power-play goal gave Chicago a 2-0 lead, with assists credited to Brent Seabrook and Brandon Saad. Pittsburgh tied the game with a pair of goals later in the same period, but Chicago came out on top in the shootout, thanks to conversions from forwards Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. In addition to breaking a tie with Denis Savard and Alexander Mogilny for 50th on the all-time goals list , Hossa’s second-period goal was his 10th of the season, giving him a 16th consecutive campaign with double-digit goals. The Czechoslovakian winger only failed to reach double-digit goals in his rookie season of 1997-98, when he made just seven appearances for the Ottawa Senators. He’s recorded at least 15 goals in each subsequent season, and he’ll likely reach that total again by the end of this year. While still going strong for his age, Hossa is on pace for a modest 17 goals, despite playing in each of Chicago’s first 47 games. He has never scored fewer than 25 goals when playing more than 60 games in a season, but it appears the impressive streak may come to an end, if he stays healthy. For now, Hossa will enjoy some time off over the All-Star break before preparing for a run at the third Stanley Cup of his career. source: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2339376-hossa-moves-into-50th-place-on-nhls-all-time-goals-list

NHL All-Star Game scoring record set in Columbus with 29 goals | Puck Daddy – Yahoo Sports

Aw, come on, Toews said as he sat at a microphone for Media Day not long after he landed. You want me to answer that straight up? View gallery . Toews and the ‘Hawks have played in three outdoor games, with another one reportedly in the works. (USA Today) He smiled. Im kidding, he said. OK, maybe part of them did wish they were somewhere warm. But Toews was kidding for the most part. Seriously. The Blackhawks have become the NHLs go-to glamour team. They hosted the second Winter Classic in 2009. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blackhawks-soar-into-all-star-game-as-nhl-s-go-to-glamour-team-231754648-nhl.html

The teams captained by Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks and Nick Foligno of the Columbus Blue Jackets set a new League record for most combined goals in an All-Star Game, in a 17-12 victory for Team Toews on Sunday at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. Patrick Kanes (Foligno) goal at 13:09 of the third period was No. 27 for the night, breaking the 26-goal record set in 2001 during the North America vs. The World format. We dont want to say the 29-goal night was overwhelming, but at one point the Civil War-dressed workers that fire a cannon after every home-team goal seemed to simply forget to do so. Maybe they ran out of ammo; the teams certainly didn’t. John Tavares of Team Toews became the sixth player in history to score four goals in the NHL All-Star Game. Tavares scored once in the first period, twice in the second and another in the third period. He joins some elite goal-scoring company: Wayne Gretzky, Campbell, 1983; Mario Lemieux, Wales, 1990; Vincent Damphousse, Campbell, 1991; Mike Gartner, Wales, 1993, and Dany Heatley, East, 2003. After two days of goofy fun at the NHL Fantasy Draft and the skills competition, the Sunday was a bit of a snoozer. The goals were plentiful, the skating was casual and the crowd only popped for the hometown heroes. So basically it was the NHL All-Star Game. The first period saw a combined eight goals, four by each team. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/nhl-all-star-game-scoring-record-set-in-columbus-with-29-goals-011226205.html
