Blackhawks beat short-handed Penguins in shootout 3-2 – Yahoo Sports

Crosby has 13 points in eight games, but didn’t get any for just the second time over that stretch Tuesday. The star center may benefit from a return home, where he has nine points in five games and scored twice in a 4-1 win over Chicago on March 30. Evgeni Malkin missed that matchup with a foot injury, but he has six points in five career meetings with the Blackhawks. The center, who has 10 points in his last eight games, will join Crosby and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury at Sunday’s All-Star game in Columbus. Chicago is expected to have five players on the ice Sunday, including captain Jonathan Toews, who will fill the same role on one of the All-Star teams. He’s riding a season-high six-game point streak, totaling eight while also netting his first goal of that stretch Tuesday to end an 11-game drought. Toews has six goals and two assists in six games against the Penguins, but didn’t have any points March 30 while Kane was out with a lower-body injury. Kane – another Blackhawks All-Star – enters this one with a team highs of 22 goals and 51 points, collecting nine in the past six games. Andrew Shaw and Teuvo Teravainen are looking to build on strong efforts from Tuesday. Shaw scored twice after netting one in his previous 22 games. Teravainen, the 18th overall pick in the 2012 draft, assisted on one of Shaw’s tallies before scoring one of his own in his first career multipoint game. “(Teravainen’s pass) was unbelievable,” Shaw told the team’s official website of the 20-year-old rookie. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blackhawks-penguins-preview-160326964–nhl.html

NHL: Eakin helps Dallas Stars beat Chicago Blackhawks 6-3 – Daily Republican Register: Daily Republican Register

The trio kept the puck buried in Pittsburgh’s zone for more than a minute, with Rundblad taking a feed from Hossa at the point and sending a shot past a well-screened Fleury for his fourth goal. Hossa doubled Chicago’s lead early in the second with his 10th goal, a wrist shot from just inside the left circle that Fleury barely saw through the sea of bodies. Yet just when it appeared the Penguins were ready to collapse, they responded behind some unlikely contributors. Sill went 47 games before recording the first point of his career with an assist against Minnesota last week. He didn’t wait nearly as long to earn his second, sending a wrist shot from the slot over Crawford’s glove 5:21 into the second. The fourth-line forward nearly smacked a Chicago player in the head with his stick during a giddy celebration, one that provided the spark necessary to wake the Penguins from a weeklong swoon. Downie tied it at 12:22 of the second, stuffing a rebound past a sprawled Crawford for his first goal since Jan. 2. That set up an electric back-and-forth third period that played in stark contrast to Pittsburgh’s penalty-filled meeting with the Flyers the night before. ”When we’ve been short players, really short players we seem to be able to pick it up,” coach Mike Johnston said. ”We need to be able to do that when we have everybody in the lineup. … source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blackhawks-beat-short-handed-penguins-shootout-3-2-040834267–nhl.html

”Our goaltender can make stops and we have shooters who like to be in that situation. We like our odds given the circumstance.” The Blackhawks also regained swagger following a pair of decisive home losses to Winnipeg and Dallas. Chicago thumped Arizona 6-1 on Tuesday and backed it up by surviving a game effort from the undermanned Penguins to win in Pittsburgh for only the second time since 1997. ”Even if things aren’t going so well, we’re good at taking responsibility for it and not dragging our feet around and dwelling on what we’re not doing or what’s not going our way,” Toews said. ”We just find ways that we can make things better, and we showed an example of that in the last two games.” David Rundblad and Marian Hossa scored in regulation for Chicago. Corey Crawford made 33 saves and held Pittsburgh’s David Perron and Sidney Crosby in check in the shootout. ”It was a tough game,” Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. ”You find when you win these types of games, it makes you a good team.” Zach Sill scored his first NHL goal and Steve Downie added his eighth of the season for the Penguins. Fleury stopped 24 shots but Pittsburgh hobbled into the break with a fourth straight loss, among them a bruising overtime defeat in Philadelphia on Tuesday that included injuries to stars Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin . Letang was held out as a precaution following a frightening collision with Philadelphia’s Zac Rinaldo . Malkin skated during warm-ups on Wednesday before telling trainers he couldn’t play due to an undisclosed issue. source: http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/gametracker/recap/NHL_20150121_CHI@PIT

Blackhawks-Penguins Preview – Yahoo Sports

Divisional games. It shows you our division’s competitiveness.” Brandon Saad scored two goals for Chicago, which had a 41-34 advantage in shots on goal. Saad has five goals and an assist in his last four games. The Stars and Blackhawks were tied at 3 when Chicago defenseman Johnny Oduya was sent off for tripping Seguin at 1:22 of the third. Eakin then capped a nifty passing sequence for Dallas with a tap-in goal. “At that time of the game, it’s a big power play,” Ruff said. “It’s a big goal for your team and gives us a little bit of momentum and it makes them gamble a little bit more. I think when you saw that you saw the odd-numbered rushes and you saw even better opportunities on our part.” Erik Cole made it 5-3 when he finished off a 2-on-1 with Jason Spezza, and Shawn Horcoff added an empty-netter with a minute left. The six goals allowed were a season high for Chicago. Vernon Fiddler also scored for Dallas, and Jamie Benn had three assists. Kari Lehtonen had 38 saves. source: http://tristate-media.com/drr/nhl-eakin-helps-dallas-stars-beat-chicago-blackhawks/article_a0a63dfe-a005-11e4-b224-cf19ba668c2c.html
