NHL: Eakin helps Dallas Stars beat Chicago Blackhawks 6-3 – Daily Republican Register: Daily Republican Register

“We’re not happy,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “Home games. Games that we’re expected to win. Teams that played the night before. Points that you’ve got to have. Divisional games. It shows you our division’s competitiveness.” Brandon Saad scored two goals for Chicago, which had a 41-34 advantage in shots on goal. Saad has five goals and an assist in his last four games. The Stars and Blackhawks were tied at 3 when Chicago defenseman Johnny Oduya was sent off for tripping Seguin at 1:22 of the third. Eakin then capped a nifty passing sequence for Dallas with a tap-in goal. “At that time of the game, it’s a big power play,” Ruff said. source: http://tristate-media.com/drr/nhl-eakin-helps-dallas-stars-beat-chicago-blackhawks/article_a0a63dfe-a005-11e4-b224-cf19ba668c2c.html

Blackhawks-Penguins Preview – Yahoo Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins may be stinging from a much different kind of drubbing. The Blackhawks look to build on one of their best performances of the season Wednesday night by sending the Penguins to a fourth straight defeat before entering the All-Star break. Chicago (29-15-2) has been inconsistent in going 4-5-0 since New Year’s Day, totaling 19 goals in those victories compared to nine in the defeats. The Blackhawks had little trouble finding the net Tuesday, scoring the first four goals of a 6-1 romp of Arizona. They scored five in losing the previous two games. “I felt like we played the right way from the outset,” said right wing Patrick Kane , who had one goal and two assists. “Power play started us off, and then we just kind of took off from there.” The Penguins (26-12-7) may feel the same way about the fisticuffs that filled Tuesday’s 3-2 overtime loss at Philadelphia. The teams combined for 93 penalty minutes with 66 coming in a second period that included four fights, stemming from a boarding major and game misconduct for Zac Rinaldo’s hit on Pittsburgh’s Kris Letang late in the opening period. Letang didn’t return after being hit from behind, and his status is unknown while Rinaldo is expected to face a suspension from the NHL. Despite filling the penalty box, Pittsburgh failed to convert on all six power plays as it lost a third straight game – one shy of its season high set from Dec. 22-29. “With that many opportunities and the skill we have, we should make them pay for that,” captain Sidney Crosby said. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blackhawks-penguins-preview-160326964–nhl.html

NHL: Blackhawks hand Coyotes sixth straight loss 6-1 – Daily Republican Register: Daily Republican Register

“I felt like we played the right way from the outset,” Kane said. “Power play started us off, and then we just kind of took off from there.” Chicago goalie Antti Raanta made 35 saves while improving to 7-0 at home this season. Raanta started in place of Corey Crawford, who likely will get the nod in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. Arizona lost its sixth consecutive game, extending its season-worst streak. Lucas Lessio scored his first career goal in the second, and Mike Smith finished with 45 stops in the Coyotes’ final game before the All-Star break. “Just got outcompeted, outworked in a lot of different areas,” Smith said. “It was almost like we were on break before break started.” The Coyotes played without left wing Mikkel Boedker, who had appeared in 257 consecutive games for the fourth-longest streak in team history. The 25-year-old Boedker, who leads Arizona with 14 goals, had his spleen removed after he was injured in Sunday’s 4-3 shootout loss at Winnipeg. Arizona coach Dave Tippett said everything is going wrong for his team right now. “We’ve got to find some kind of plan and move our group ahead because this is unacceptable,” he said. Shaw had just one goal in his previous 22 games. source: http://tristate-media.com/drr/nhl-blackhawks-hand-coyotes-sixth-straight-loss/article_9297509e-a150-11e4-bf0a-4b78b9531147.html
