NHL 2015 All-Stars announced; who was snubbed? | Puck Daddy – Yahoo Sports

Being down 2-0 quick like that changes the whole way the game is going to be played from there on out. We did generate a lot of shots on net. The second and third opportunities are where we needed to capitalize.” Chicago now heads out on the road, where it’s dropped three of four. “You worry about your next game and next shift as a player,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “That’s your objective to bring the focus, bring the motivation of doing the right things and that’s what it’s all about.” The Blackhawks haven’t visited the Twin Cities since eliminating the Wild with a 2-1 overtime victory in Game 6 of last year’s Western Conference semifinals. Chicago took this season’s first meeting 5-3 on Dec. 16 as Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook each recorded a goal and two assists. The Blackhawks have taken three straight and 13 of 19 matchups, including playoffs. Kane has four goals and four assists during a five-game point streak in the series, giving him 21 points in his last 21 regular-season meetings. Minnesota (18-15-5) has managed 26 goals during a 2-4-4 slump. The Wild suffered a 7-1 loss at Dallas on Saturday before falling 4-3 in overtime to San Jose on Tuesday, their fourth OT defeat – all coming in the past nine contests – and fifth loss overall in six home games. “We can hang our heads, we can feel sorry for ourselves, we can point fingers,” coach Mike Yeo told the team’s official website. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blackhawks-wild-preview-235401714–nhl.html

Roy leads Oilers past Blackhawks 5-2

Edmonton (9-23-9) should be well rested after last playing in Tuesday’s 4-2 home loss to Detroit. Jordan Eberle scored twice and has four goals and an assist in four games. It lost the game on the penalty kill, where it was 3 for 6 and is 5 for 10 in the last two games. Chicago is 6 of 23 (26.1 percent) on the power play over six games. The Oilers are 0-4-5 against the Central and are trying to join the rest of the NHL with a double-digit win total on the third date of a four-game homestand. Ten games into Todd Nelson’s term as interim coach, the team is trying to evolve into a more aggressive forecheck. Thus far, the Oilers are 2-4-4 under Nelson, and while they continue to allow far too much on the back end (3.33 goals per game in that time), they’ve seen at least some improvements offensively. Under Nelson, they’ve averaged 2.40 goals per game after a 12-game stretch at 1.45. “We tweaked our forecheck, both in the neutral zone and the offensive zone so it’s more aggressive than maybe what they’ve played in the past,” Nelson told the team’s official website. “If we do it effectively, it does create turnovers and we can attack on the rush or keep the puck alive in the offensive zone. Once again, the system only works if the guys have bought in and are playing hard and working hard with it. That’s something we’re striving for, but it is more aggressive.” Ben Scrivens, who was rested Tuesday, started but did not finish the first game against Chicago after allowing five goals on 13 shots. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blackhawks-oilers-preview-151738248–nhl.html

Blackhawks-Oilers Preview – Yahoo Sports

Here they are; keep in mind every team needed a representative, the NHL values stardom over achievement, and someone had to make it from the Hurricanes. Forwards Tanner Pearson, Los Angeles Kings Filip Forsberg, Nashville Predators Jonathan Drouin , Tampa Bay Lightning *** The 2015 NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft will be held on Friday, Jan. 23, to divide the All-Stars and Rookies into two teams (8:00 p.m. ET, NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports). Captains for each squad will be announced next week. The highest-scoring player not to make the cut is Nikita Kucherov of the Lightning, but his linemate Johnson is an all-star. James van Riemsdyk (40 points) stays home, as Kessel makes the game. Jiri Hudler should have made the game based on achievement, but hey, gotta throw the Oilers that bone. A case could be made for either Nicklas Backstrom or John Carlson from the Capitals; but again, Ottawa and Carolina need their all-stars, too. Wonder if it came down to Howard or Jaroslav Halak at the goalie spot? As for Patrik Elias er uh hmmmm *coughs* maybe Jagr saw those new all-star sweaters and was like “uh no…”? source: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/nhl-2015-all-stars-announced–who-was-snubbed-233642200.html
