Roy leads Oilers past Blackhawks 5-2

Chicago’s five straight wins in the series have come by a 26-10 total, including a 7-1 win in Edmonton on Nov. 22 to begin the season series. Kane has nine points in those wins and 23 on a 13-game point streak in the series. Edmonton (9-23-9) should be well rested after last playing in Tuesday’s 4-2 home loss to Detroit. Jordan Eberle scored twice and has four goals and an assist in four games. It lost the game on the penalty kill, where it was 3 for 6 and is 5 for 10 in the last two games. Chicago is 6 of 23 (26.1 percent) on the power play over six games. The Oilers are 0-4-5 against the Central and are trying to join the rest of the NHL with a double-digit win total on the third date of a four-game homestand. Ten games into Todd Nelson’s term as interim coach, the team is trying to evolve into a more aggressive forecheck. Thus far, the Oilers are 2-4-4 under Nelson, and while they continue to allow far too much on the back end (3.33 goals per game in that time), they’ve seen at least some improvements offensively. source:–nhl.html

Blackhawks Game Notes For Friday @ Edmonton | WGN-TV

“I think we can do a better job of getting to the net. I think the most frustrating part is the way we started the game again. Being down 2-0 quick like that changes the whole way the game is going to be played from there on out. We did generate a lot of shots on net. The second and third opportunities are where we needed to capitalize.” Chicago now heads out on the road, where it’s dropped three of four. “You worry about your next game and next shift as a player,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “That’s your objective to bring the focus, bring the motivation of doing the right things and that’s what it’s all about.” The Blackhawks haven’t visited the Twin Cities since eliminating the Wild with a 2-1 overtime victory in Game 6 of last year’s Western Conference semifinals. Chicago took this season’s first meeting 5-3 on Dec. 16 as Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook each recorded a goal and two assists. The Blackhawks have taken three straight and 13 of 19 matchups, including playoffs. source:–nhl.html

Jan 1, 2015; Washington, DC, USA; Chicago Blackhawks left wing Brandon Saad (20) battles for the puck with Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson...

“It was a great sign that we could bounce back right away,” Nelson said. “That’s good to see. Hopefully that continues and we keep on maturing in that direction. Once they scored, our guys stuck with it and got rewarded.” Chicago tied it six minutes into the second period as Oilers defenseman Nikita Nikitin allowed a 2-on-1, and Marian Hossa elected to shoot on the play and the rebound came directly to Saad, who scored his second goal of the game. Edmonton came flying back to regain the lead only 46 seconds later as Petry joined the rush and slipped the rebound from Yakupov’s shot through Raanta’s legs to make it 3-2. Scrivens kept his team in the lead with five minutes left in the second period as he made a huge stop on Andrew Shaw on the doorstep. The Oilers were able to clamp down on defense and limit the Blackhawks’ chances in the third until Yakupov was able to put the game away, coming in with Hall on a 2-on-0 opportunity and electing to shoot himself, beating Raanta on the backhand with three minutes remaining. It was Yakupov’s first goal in 15 games. Hall added an empty-netter shortly afterward. “The game winning-goal, the third one, if you let that kind of bad rebound right to a guy’s stick, you have to recover and make the save,” Raanta said. “You can’t let in that kind of goal. source:
