Blackhawks-Wild Preview – Yahoo Sports

Defensive breakdowns lead to a scoring flurry early in the second. Jordie Benn, a defenseman, trailed into the slot and scored his first goal of the season 2:15 into the period to complete a slick three-way passing play with Cole and Ales Hemsky to put Dallas ahead 2-1. No Blackhawks forwards backchecked on the Stars’ rush. Kane tied it at 2 at 3:58 to finish a 2-on-1 with Sharp, who created the odd-man break when he blew around Jordie Benn at the Dallas blue line. Cole restored the Stars’ lead at 3-2 just 45 seconds later when he was left wide open at the side of the net and lifted in a high shot. Bickell’s power-play tip-in with 1:55 left in the second tied it 3-all. Cole’s second goal of the game, on a mid-air deflection of Goligoski’s floating feed from the left point 4:05 into the third period, put Dallas back ahead, 4-3. NOTES: Versteeg has nine goals and 18 assists in 34 games after fully recovering from knee surgery in March 2013. He missed the first four games of this season with an unrelated lower-body injury. . source: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/bruins_nhl/nhl_coverage/2015/01/blackhawks_win_5_4_in_ot_end_stars_4_game_streak

Versteeg left Thursday’s 3-2 loss to Washington after he blocked Eric Fehr ‘s shot with his hand early in the third period. Versteeg ranks third on the team with 27 points (nine goals, 18 assists) in 34 games. Coach Joel Quenneville said Saturday that Versteeg will be out for “about a month,” and the team doesn’t think the injury will require surgery. The winger also missed the start of the season with a lower-body injury. The Blackhawks promoted top prospect Teuvo Teravainen from the minors Friday to help make up for Versteeg’s absence. Chicago’s next game is Sunday against Dallas. source: http://www.westport-news.com/sports/article/Blackhawks-forward-Kris-Versteeg-out-for-a-month-5992296.php

The second and third opportunities are where we needed to capitalize.” Chicago now heads out on the road, where it’s dropped three of four. “You worry about your next game and next shift as a player,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “That’s your objective to bring the focus, bring the motivation of doing the right things and that’s what it’s all about.” The Blackhawks haven’t visited the Twin Cities since eliminating the Wild with a 2-1 overtime victory in Game 6 of last year’s Western Conference semifinals. Chicago took this season’s first meeting 5-3 on Dec. 16 as Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook each recorded a goal and two assists. The Blackhawks have taken three straight and 13 of 19 matchups, including playoffs. Kane has four goals and four assists during a five-game point streak in the series, giving him 21 points in his last 21 regular-season meetings. Minnesota (18-15-5) has managed 26 goals during a 2-4-4 slump. The Wild suffered a 7-1 loss at Dallas on Saturday before falling 4-3 in overtime to San Jose on Tuesday, their fourth OT defeat – all coming in the past nine contests – and fifth loss overall in six home games. “We can hang our heads, we can feel sorry for ourselves, we can point fingers,” coach Mike Yeo told the team’s official website. “But those types of things are not the types of things that winners do and those types of things do not help you get out of something like this.” Yeo expressed further displeasure after what he deemed a disappointing practice Wednesday. “He’s frustrated just as many guys in here,” forward Thomas Vanek said. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blackhawks-wild-preview-235401714–nhl.html
