Chicago tries to continue its recent success with a visit to the Wild as these Central Division opponents meet Thursday night. The Blackhawks (26-12-2) were riding high after winning eight straight and 10 of 11, but things haven’t gone as smoothly during a 4-3-1 stretch. Chicago leads the league with a 2.15 goals-against average but has surrendered 20 goals over its last six games. The Blackhawks are looking to bounce back following Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Colorado. Chicago recorded a season-high 54 shots but was blanked by Semyon Varlamov in suffering its first shutout since Nov. 2. Corey Crawford allowed both goals in the opening 1:17. The Blackhawks have given up the first goal in five straight games. “It’s frustrating,” forward Patrick Sharp told the team’s official website. “I think we can do a better job of getting to the net. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blackhawks-wild-preview-235401714–nhl.html

5 Bold Predictions for the Chicago Blackhawks in the New Year | Bleacher Report

Edmonton (9-23-9) should be well rested after last playing in Tuesday’s 4-2 home loss to Detroit. Jordan Eberle scored twice and has four goals and an assist in four games. It lost the game on the penalty kill, where it was 3 for 6 and is 5 for 10 in the last two games. Chicago is 6 of 23 (26.1 percent) on the power play over six games. The Oilers are 0-4-5 against the Central and are trying to join the rest of the NHL with a double-digit win total on the third date of a four-game homestand. Ten games into Todd Nelson’s term as interim coach, the team is trying to evolve into a more aggressive forecheck. Thus far, the Oilers are 2-4-4 under Nelson, and while they continue to allow far too much on the back end (3.33 goals per game in that time), they’ve seen at least some improvements offensively. Under Nelson, they’ve averaged 2.40 goals per game after a 12-game stretch at 1.45. “We tweaked our forecheck, both in the neutral zone and the offensive zone so it’s more aggressive than maybe what they’ve played in the past,” Nelson told the team’s official website. “If we do it effectively, it does create turnovers and we can attack on the rush or keep the puck alive in the offensive zone. Once again, the system only works if the guys have bought in and are playing hard and working hard with it. source: http://www.foxsports.com/nhl/story/blackhawks-oilers-preview-010915

However, Kane’s accomplishments in the regular season have been quite modest. No. 88 has never scored more than 30 goals, and he has only accomplished that feat once, during the 2009-10 season. Since then, he has never had more than 29 goals. Kane has already scored 19 goals in his first 40 games. If he can maintain his pace, he will blow by his career high during the second half of the year. Look for Kane to stay hot in the second half of the season and score at least 35 goals this season. Teuvo Teravainen Will Slowly but Surely Prove His Value Bill Smith/Getty Images Teuvo Teravainen was probably losing patience as he skated for the Rockford IceHogs. The Blackhawks likely wanted him to get used to the more physical North American style of hockey. However, one can assume he was tired of biding his time in the American Hockey League and waiting for the big club to call.
