Blackhawks’ Hossa may have Hall of Fame resume – Yahoo Sports

Crawford stopped Wilson’s first close-in attempt, but Smith popped in the rebound. Neal was credited with his first goal at 7:28 of the second period to make it 3-0. Then the Blackhawks roared back. Rinne made point-blank stops on Toews and Patrick Kane during a Chicago power play midway through the period. Richards made it 3-1 seven seconds after the advantage ended, at 10:33. Shaw stuffed in a loose puck from the side of the net with 4:12 left in the period to cut it to 3-2. Hossa’s 4-on-3-power-play goal, ripped over Rinne’s glove from the top of the right circle, tied it 3-3 just 1:55 later. Only six seconds after Chicago was penalized for having too many men on the ice, Neal buried a rebound of Filip Forsberg’s drive to put the Predators back ahead. NOTES: Shaw’s goal was his first since Nov. 28, a span of 13 games. source: http://tristate-media.com/drr/nhl-toews-so-goal-lifts-blackhawks-over-predators/article_d92d933c-9049-11e4-9fdb-b7a8807ea3f5.html

”He doesn’t seem to get any older, either. He seems to get better and better each year.” This is Hossa’s 16th full NHL season and he remains a key cog for the Blackhawks, who have won the Cup twice in the past five years and visit the Washington Capitals on Thursday in the Winter Classic. Hossa is averaging 0.64 points a game, the lowest since his rookie year with the Ottawa Senators , but his two-way game is responsible for preventing more than a few goals against. Teammates past and present marvel at what Hossa can do in the defensive zone and without the puck. ”He’s got that powerful stride that gets him back in the play easily,” said former Blackhawks forward Jeremy Morin, who’s now with the Columbus Blue Jackets . ”And he can take the puck off your stick with ease. He’s so strong on the stick and it’s always in the right position. He can steal pucks with the best in the league, for sure.” That, Blackhawks winger Brandon Saad said, is how Hossa turns defense into offense. In 1,127 games, Hossa has 472 goals and 547 assists. Hossa is 76th on the all-time points list, ahead of Hockey Hall of Famers Pat LaFontaine, Lanny McDonald and Maurice Richard. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blackhawks-hossa-may-hall-fame-resume-161531731–nhl.html

Ranking the Top Moments of 2014 for the Chicago Blackhawks | Bleacher Report

He regularly would allow at least one stoppable goal per game, and he simply was not at his best most nights. While the Blackhawks’ offensive skills and ability to fill the net allowed them to overcome Crawford’s less-than-impressive play, improvement from their No. 1 goaltender was high on the priority list at the start of the season. Crawford has been nothing but resilient throughout his career, and he has been on top of his game through the majority of the season. He has a 14-6-2 record with a 2.08 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. Crawford recently came back from a lower-body injury suffered in early December when he lost his footing while attending a concert in Chicago. Since coming back from that injury, Crawford has allowed 11 goals in four games. He needs to return to the form he was displaying in his first 18 games when his GAA was under 2.00 per game. If he can do that, the Blackhawks have an excellent chance of playing dominating hockey the rest of the season. 1. Get the Break in the Stanley Cup Playoffs That Eluded Them Last Year Charles Rex Arbogast/Associated Press The Blackhawks did a lot of things well during last season’s playoff run, and they were a game away from getting back to the Stanley Cup Final and facing the New York Rangers for the league championship. However, after coming back from a 3-1 deficit to force a seventh game against the Kings in the Western Conference Final, they could not score the winning goal in overtime. source: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2315504-the-top-5-new-years-resolutions-for-the-chicago-blackhawks

The Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions for the Chicago Blackhawks | Bleacher Report

Versteeg has raised his level of play to the point where he is skating on the team’s No. 2 line with Kane and Brad Richards. Versteeg has been producing consistently this season. He has scored nine goals and 18 assists, making him the third-leading scorer on the team behind Kane and Toews. Additionally, Versteeg has a team-high plus-15 rating, which is an indication that he is playing hard in all three zones and consistently playing well on defense. Versteeg has a chance to break his career high of 54 points if he can stay on his current pace. This would give the Blackhawks much more than they had a right to think he would give them after he scored 29 points for them in 63 games last year. When strong contenders like the Blackhawks get key contributions from role players like Versteeg, they have a much better chance of fulfilling their expectations. 4. Toews’ SO goal lifts Blackhawks over Predators 5-4

He always made us laugh,” Brouwer said. “He always had fun with us. He loved what he did. He’s going to be missed. I can’t say enough about him.” Brouwer had asked Capitals equipment manager Brock Myles about wearing a CR sticker and the idea spread to the entire Washington squad. “It’s a great thing,” said Quenneville. “We certainly appreciated them thinking of Clint. The support shown to his family has been outstanding in a really tough time. It’s one more way to show what he meant and what an outstanding guy he is.” Sunny and chilly conditions are forecast for the NHL’s 14th outdoor regular-season stadium contest. Coaches will consider changing ends midway into each period to even out any glare issues. The NHL is considering delaying the start until stadium upper deck shadows cover the rink. source: http://news.yahoo.com/outdoor-foes-pay-tribute-chicago-manager-232035629–nhl.html
