Minnesota has now lost five straight after dropping two games this week. Florida Panthers (Last week: 17):The Panthers kicked off a four-game homestand over the holidays in fine fashion, besting Pittsburgh in the shootout Monday and then scoring six goals against Toronto on Sunday. The offence has turned around somewhatFlorida has now scored at least two goals in 11 consecutive games and three times in that span has topped four markers. 16. Toronto Maple Leafs (Last week: 16):Our panel has yet to sour on the Maple Leafs, a team which has now lost four of its last five and allowed four-or-more goals in each of the defeats. Vancouver Canucks (Last Week: 15):The Canucks destroyed Arizona in Vancouver on Monday, running up a 7-1 score in a game that saw 11 of the team’s 12 forwards pick up at least one point. Sunday’s contest wasn’t so easy, as the Ducks edged Vancouver in overtime, 2-1. 14. Washington Capitals (Last week: 14):Washington had two wins and a loss this week and is now a ridiculous 8-1-2 in its last 11 games. Between the Capitals and the Rangers, the Metropolitan Division suddenly has four successful teams. 13. This year’s NHL Winter Classic between the Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks is set for Thursday, January 1, 2015. Tickets on some online website are priced at nearly $2000 each. A webcam on NHL.com shows Nationals Park – the temporary home of the Caps for the big match being set up. This will be the first time Washington, D.C. will host the NHL Winter Classic. The Washington Capitals defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins by a score of 31 in the 2011 NHL Winter Classic that was played in Pittsburgh. The first NHL Winter Classic was played in 2008. * Nashville scored a season-high three power play goals in its win over Philadelphia on Saturday after scoring a total of three goals with the man advantage in its previous 14 contests. Toews has 34 points (14g, 20a) in his career against the Predators the second-most points in his career against any opponent (36 vs. Columbus). * Colin Wilson, who lit the lamp in the last meeting between these clubs on December 6, has scored at least one goal in a career-high three consecutive games (4 total).
