NHL schedule 2014: Blackhawks host Maple Leafs – SBNation.com

25. Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks make totally awesome All-Star bid “If I have to, it’s awesome” said Girgensons, the only Latvian currently playing in the NHL. “It’ll be satisfaction to the fans, really.” Selected in the first-round of the 2012 draft, Girgensons has established himself as a skilled two-way forward, and part of the rebuilding team’s young core. Girgensons leads Buffalo (13-18-3) with nine goals and is second with 18 points. That puts him well off the league-leading pace. Dallas center Tyler Seguin is first with 25 goals, while Philadelphia’s Jakub Voracek tops the points list with 44. Sabres coach Ted Nolan said Girgensons has nothing to be ashamed of. “I wouldn’t be embarrassed at all,” Nolan said. “The whole nation’s cheering for him, which is great to see. So he should feel a lot of pride.” Nolan knows plenty about Girgensons and Latvia. He spent the previous four years coaching Latvia’s national team, which included Girgensons. source: http://www.foxsports.com/nhl/story/buffalo-sabres-chicago-blackhawks-all-star-vote-lead-zemgus-girgensons-jonathan-toews-patrick-kane-122314

Here is a look at the schedule and television information for the contest. Winter Classic 2015 Schedule, TVInfo Date: Thursday, Jan. 1 Matchup: Chicago Blackhawks vs. Washington Nationals Location: Nationals Park, Washington D.C. TV: NBC Preview Patrick McDermott/Getty Images The weather is crucial to the Winter Classic, as unfavorable conditions could affect the quality of play out on the ice. According to the Washington Post’s Jason Samenow , the weather should be cold and dry on Thursday, a forecast he considers ideal for hockey. The biggest draw to the Winter Classic isas previously mentionedthe nostalgia factor, and a touch of snow might draw more eyeballs to the game, but the forecast should at least allow the Blackhawks and Capitals to provide competition worthy of all the pre-game hype. Chicago is first in the Central Division with 48 points and second overall in the Western Conference, while the Capitals are fourth in the Metropolitan but have won seven of their last 10 games. Kirk Irwin/Getty Images The Blackhawks are immensely strong at both ends of the ice. The team ranks first in the league in shots per game (35.2) and fifth in goals (2.94), while allowing just 2.03 goals against, the stingiest rate in the NHL . Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford has been sensational this season, posting a 2.00 goals-against average (fourth in the league) and a .923 save percentage in 20 appearances. source: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2311445-winter-classic-2015-schedule-tv-info-and-preview-for-blackhawks-vs-capitals

9, 2014. (Doug Pensinger, Getty Images) NHL standings The Avalanche, riding a season-best three-game winning streak and points in its last six, returned from a three-day holiday break Saturday morning to prepare for the ensuing game against the Chicago Blackhawks at the Pepsi Center. Avs coach Patrick Roy will stick with the same lineup that produced Tuesday’s 5-0 rout of the St. Louis Blues, except rookie goalie Calvin Pickard will start and Semyon Varlamov will serve as the backup. Pickard, 22, could be returned to the minors after the game , or in the near future if Varlamov continues to elude setbacks from his troubling groin injury. Pickard’s .939 save percentage is the NHL’s second highest behind Winnipeg’s Michael Hutchinson (.944). Chicago is coming off a 5-1 loss to the visiting Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. The Blackhawks beat the Avs 3-2 on Nov. 26 in Denver in the first meeting between the Central Division rivals this season. source: http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_27215143/avalanche-gears-up-extend-winning-streak-blackhawks-town?source=rss
