NHL Notes: Blues’ Martin Brodeur Signing A Mistake; Johnny Boychuk Placed On IR | NHL | NESN.com

Pick: Avalanche 5, Jets 4 Montreal Canadiens at Chicago Blackhawks , 8:30 p.m. ET Since they started the season just 7-6-1 over their first 14 games, the Blackhawks have been steamrolling teams over the past month, putting together a 9-2-0 record and outscoring their opponents 41-23 in their past 11 games. They take that hot streak into Friday’s game against a Montreal team that has been slumping of late, losing four of its past five while only scoring nine goals in the process. Going into Chicago to play a team that is clicking on all cylinders right now isn’t exactly the best way to bust out of a slump. Pick: Blackhawks 5, Canadiens 2 Three stars 1. Patrick Kane , Chicago Blackhawks: The hottest player on the hottest team in the league right now. Not only does Kane have at least one point in seven of his past nine games, six of those games have been multi-point efforts. When he is on top of his game there are only a few players in the league that are more electrifying and dangerous than Kane, and right now he is playing some of the best hockey he has played in quite some time. 2. Tyson Barrie , Colorado Avalanche: Colorado’s defense is a definite weak link this season, but Barrie is a legitimately good player on their blue line. He is one of the few defensemen currently leading his team in scoring (19 points in 25 games, one point ahead of Nathan MacKinnon and two ahead of Matt Duchene ). source: http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/eye-on-hockey/24867642/nhl-daily-picks-canadiens-try-to-slow-down-patrick-kane-blackhawks

Blackhawks’ Crawford out 2-to-3 weeks – UPI.com

Brodeur signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, giving the Central Division club much-needed goaltending depth with veteran Brian Elliott on injured reserve and 24-year-old Jake Allen lacking NHL experience. .@ MartinBrodeur ‘s new mask has arrived. #stlblues #OurBlues http://t.co/NQeRwD9J1Q St. Louis Blues (@StLouisBlues) December 03, 2014 Brodeurs resumespeaks for itself. Hes the all-time leader in victories, shutouts and helped the Devils win three Stanley Cup champions during his 20-year career in New Jersey from 1993-94 through 2013-14. The Blues aredesperate for goaltending, but Brodeur isnt a smart solution. Brodeurs save percentage hasnt been above .908 since the 2009-10 campaign, and he finished the 2013-14 season with a .901 save percentage (lowest of his career) and a 2.51 goals against average (second-highest of his career).Broduer posted a .904 save percentage in 183 games over the last four seasons. St. Louis gives up the second fewest shots per game at 26.7, so Brodeur probably wont need to make 30-plus saves on most night in front of a blue line with great talent and depth. However, the Devils allowed the least amount of shots per game (25.5) last season and Brodeur still struggled to keep pucks out of the net. source: http://nesn.com/2014/12/nhl-notes-blues-martin-brodeur-signing-a-mistake-johnny-boychuk-placed-on-ir/

3, 2014 at 6:12 PM Comments | License Photo Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford is expected to miss the next 2-to-3 weeks after injuring his left foot while attending a concert. Crawford told reporters Wednesday that he took an awkward step while exiting the show. The 2013 Stanley Cup champion backstop was spotted wearing a walking boot during the interview. Antti Raanta, who has made just three starts so far this season, will take over as the Blackhawks’ No. 1 goaltender in Crawford’s absence. Chicago recalled Scott Darling from Rockford of the American Hockey League Tuesday to serve as the backup. Crawford currently ranks third in the NHL with a 1.87 goals-against average and has compiled a 12-5-1 record with a .929 save percentage over 18 starts this season. Raanta is 1-2-0 with a 2.03 GAA in his limited action. [SportsNetwork.com] source: http://www.upi.com/Sports_News/2014/12/03/Blackhawks-Crawford-out-2-to-3-weeks/8811417639481/
