Fall of Stars one of early surprises – NashuaTelegraph.com

Black jerseys have been considered a scourge on the NHL. Some teams have no business wearing them. Theyre used for a cash grab, or because someone in marketing saw the sales figures for the Oakland Raiders for the last 20 years and said GIMMIE. Since its Black Friday a day dedicated to commercial excess and cliched marketing we figured it was a perfect time to look back at the history of black sweaters in the NHL, pit them against each other and come up with a definitive ranking as definitive as one mans opinion can be, when that man is nursing a turkey hangover. Here are the Black Jerseys in NHL History: RANKED! Please note that all the jerseys are linked to the NHL Uniform Database , so click the names to see the sweaters. Also note that these are for jerseys that are primarily black. So that Tampa jersey with the Lightning on it? Thats a blue jersey . And here we go. (And let us know if we spaced on any. ) View gallery Serious love for these jerseys, as the Senators enter the league looking like bad-asses. Yes, even Sylvain Turgeon. Starting goaltender Kari Lehtonen (.905 save percentage) hasnt played well, and backup Anders Lindback whose struggles in replacing Ben Bishop for the Tampa Bay Lightning last spring all but handed a first-round victory to the Canadiens has been worse with a goals-against average of 4.63 and save percentage of .861. A young, unproven defense hasnt helped, so Nill changed up his blue-line by trading veteran Sergei Gonchar to Montreal for forward Travis Moen and Brenden Dillon to San Jose for Jason Demers. Kevin Connauton was claimed off waivers by the Columbus Blue Jackets, and call-up John Klingberg (three goals and five assists in 10 games) has been better than advertised. Up front, the Stars are without winger Valeri Nichushkin until March after he had hip surgery. And Hemsky still hasnt panned out with just a goal and five assists in 23 games. Weve had a lot of guys on our team (who) just havent clicked, Nill said. The opposite is true for the Predators, whose 34 points through 23 games were tied for tops in the league pending the Lightnings game Monday night at the New York Rangers. Nashville has gotten superb goaltending from Pekka Rinne, who leads all starters with a 1.82 GAA and .933 save percentage. Theres no question that psychologically you probably play a little bit different with Pekka in net than we did last year for 51 games that he wasnt there, GM David Poile said. Rinne missed much of last season with a hip injury and an infection. He returned for the end of 2013-14 and starred for Finland at the world championships. source: http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/sports/hockey/1052534-460/fall-of-stars-one-of-early-surprises.html

Brad Richards 2 goals lead Chicago Blackhawks over L.A.b Kings | FOX Sports

Trailing 2-0, the Kings got on the board at 5:53 of the second period when defenseman Jake Muzzin’s slap shot from the left point hit the shaft of Nolan’s stick and fluttered between Crawford’s pads. HIGHLIGHT: Jordan Nolan redirects the puck into the net to get the @LAKings on the board against the @NHLBlackhawks . http://t.co/bw9qV3rHVB Kings Vision (@KingsVision) November 30, 2014 It was the first goal in 14 games this season for Nolan, who would have been a healthy scratch if not for Marian Gaborik’s upper-body injury. Chicago regained its two-goal margin at 8:14 of the second on a rush in which four players touched the puck in the Kings end. Richards converted Michal Rozsival’s pass at the left of the net for his sixth goal and third in two games. Richards failed to score a goal for the New York Rangers during last season’s Stanley Cup finals. Just 28 seconds after serving Crawford’s tripping penalty, Kris Versteeg took the puck away from Quick and Matt Greene behind the net and found Richards at the left of the crease for a one-timer that beat Quick with 2:01 left in the first. NOTES: Kings D Alec Martinez missed his seventh straight game because of an upper-body injury. … This was the sixth time this season that Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane both failed to get a point for the Blackhawks, and the first time the team won (1-4-1). source: http://www.foxsports.com/west/story/richards-2-goals-lead-blackhawks-over-kings-112914
