Kane scores twice to lead Blackhawks past Ducks | FOX Sports

Andrew Shaw gave the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead with his fifth of the season while Hampus Lindholm cut the lead in half before the end of the first as he tipped in a Patrick Maroon shot. Kane scored in the second on a slapshot and then finished the scoring with an empty netter in the final minute of play. Corey Crawford stopped 23-of-24 to get his 11th win of the season. WASHINGTON 5 NEW YORK ISLANDERS 2 Matt Niskanen finally showed some offensive flair as he had three assists to lead the Capitals to a win over their Metropolitan Division rivals. The Capitals got goals from Andre Burakovsky , Marcus Johansson , Alex Ovechkin , Evgeny Kuznetsov and Joel Ward into the empty net as Islanders goalie Chad Johnson stopped 22-of-26 shots in the loss. John Tavares and Anders Lee replied for the New Yorkers who lost Lubomir Visnovsky in the second stanza when he suffered an upper body injury. Braden Holtby picked up his eighth win of the season as he now has a 2.27 GAA. CAROLINA 4 PITTSBURGH 2 Jiri Tlusty opened the scoring and closed it with an empty netter as the Hurricanes went into Pittsburgh and came out with a 4-2 win. Pittsburgh went into this game as a big favorite so you would assume that the Penguins outshot the Hurricanes and that Cam Ward was forced to stand on his head for the win. But you would be wrong. The visiting Hurricanes outshot Pittsburgh 35-22 as Marc-Andre Fleury kept the Penguins in the game until the empty netter with 13 seconds left. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/dose-st-louis-magic-111100376–nhl.html

Patrick Kane’s 5th goal in 7 games lifts Chicago Blackhawks over Anaheim Ducks | FOX Sports

(AP) — The Anaheim Ducks , strapped for healthy defensemen, acquired 16-year veteran Eric Brewer from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2015 draft. The 35-year-old Brewer was the fifth overall pick in the 1997 draft by the New York Islanders . He also played for Edmonton and St. Louis, where he was captain for three seasons. He was in the playoffs twice with the Oilers and twice with the Lightning. Brewer’s arrival can’t come soon enough for the Ducks. Francois Beauchemin is sidelined for a minimum of four to six weeks because of a broken finger on his right hand, which occurred when he blocked a slap shot by T.J. Brodie during Tuesday night’s 3-2 victory over Calgary. In addition, Clayton Stoner missed his third straight game on Friday because of the mumps. Defenseman Jesse Blacker made his NHL debut during Friday’s matinee against the Chicago Blackhawks after getting promoted from Norfolk of the AHL. Ducks acquire Brewer from Lightning – Yahoo Sports

”My view was that (Oduya) was falling and he was turning at the same time,” Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. ”Palmi didn’t change his direction, didn’t hit him in the head – just kept following through with the check. I think because the Chicago bench stood up and everybody made a big deal about it, that’s why the penalty was called.” Crawford, making his 13th consecutive start, didn’t have to face a shot during the first 7 1-2 minutes with his teammates dominating play at the other end. Richards gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead at the 7:58 mark, beating Andersen to the glove side with a 35-foot wrist shot at the end of a 2-on-1 rush. ”We talked about it before the game, that the forwards were going to have to help the D today,” Boudreau said. ”Chicago was on a mission, and that’s as good as they’ve played against us in a long time. They took it to us from the drop of the puck, and that’s when you need your experience to come through.” FOX SPORTS DAILY SUBSCRIBE Shaw made it 2-0 at 13:30 of the first, redirecting the puck past Andersen’s left leg from the low slot after Duncan Keith set him up from the left circle. By then, Chicago had an 11-1 shot advantage, and Boudreau burned his only timeout. The Blackhawks didn’t get a shot on net the rest of the period, and Anaheim got on the board with Lindholm’s goal 3:11 before intermission. He batted in a rebound of Patrick Maroon’s 50-foot slap shot off Crawford’s mask, just seconds after Kesler received a solid open-ice hit from Niklas Hjalmarsson that knocked him backward and onto the ice. ”We obviously weren’t able to sustain it after that,” Boudreau said. ”They obviously said between periods that they’re not going to allow it. source: http://www.foxsports.com/nhl/story/patrick-kane-leads-blackhawks-past-ducks-112814

NHL team values zoom upwards per Forbes | Puck Daddy – Yahoo Sports

View photo Nov 4, 2014; Glendale, AZ, USA; Arizona Coyotes mascot Howler blocks the view of Toronto Maple Leafs fans during the second period at Gila River Arena. (Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports) Forbes released its annual NHL team valuations Tuesday. Though some team officials gripe at these, saying that they’re off for whatever reasons — the news is generally positive. First, the good according to Forbes: “Fueled by a new Canadian media deal withRogers Communicationsthat begins with the 2014-15 season, the average NHLteamvalue rose 18.6% during the past year, to an all-time high of $490 million. The 12-year, $4.6 billion agreement, which gave Rogers rights to all NHL games in Canada, including the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Stanley Cup Final, on all of its platforms, in all languages, is worth 2.6 times more annually than the leagues previous Canadian deals.” Now the sort of bad — which we already knew … that the NHL lags behind other major North American pro sports because these television deals don’t exactly equate to what MLB, the NFL or the NBA get from their respective partners: “The Rogers media deal notwithstanding, the NHL remains the most tribal of the four major North American team sports because the NBA, NFL and MLB still have much bigger equally-shared national media and sponsorship deals.” And the mistake: “Still, 29 of the 30 teams rose in value, and the one exception, the Florida Panthers (down 21%), was due to a mistake I made last September inreportingthe sale price of the team as $240 million, which we used for our value of the team two months later. But subsequent to the publication of our 2013 valuations I learned that the true sale price was $160 million (the widely reported price of$250 millionat the time of the deal included future operating losses that should not be included in calculating an enterprise value). Had we used the correct sale price of $160 million the value of the Panthers would have increased 19%.” So for those who were chirping for the Panthers to move out of South Florida because of one game where they had miserable attendance … chill. Now that we have that all out there, nothing on their list is truly a major, super big surprise. The big market teams are worth more than the smaller market teams. Also, the falling Canadian dollar is not accounted for, since it says it uses the 93 cents per-US dollar figure from the 2013-14 season. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/nhl-team-values-zoom-upwards-per-forbes-170019501.html
