Red Wings rally from 3 down to beat Devils | The Journal Gazette

“I have learned throughout the years that anything can happen.” Kane has four goals and four assists over the last four games. He’s tallied four and five, respectively, during a 5-1-3 stretch against the Canucks. The Blackhawks went 2-0-1 in the series last season, with both victories coming at Rogers Arena. Vancouver (13-6-1) had won three of four before suffering a 4-3 shootout loss to Anaheim on Thursday. The Canucks, who fell behind 2-0 in the first period, scored three in the second before allowing the tying goal with just over eight minutes to go in regulation. “Every point’s important. It’s going to come down to the end, you’re going to need every point you can get,” coach Willie Desjardins said. “It was big for us to find a way to get one.” Eddie Lack finished with 23 saves as Vancouver became the last NHL team to lose a one-goal game, falling to 7-1-0. The Canucks could turn back to Ryan Miller, who is 12-3-0 with a 2.74 GAA. He won his first five home starts before allowing all five goals on 23 shots in last Friday’s 5-0 loss to Arizona. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/blackhawks-canucks-preview-073230950–nhl.html

Central Division: Blackhawks take flight in race against time – Sports – The Buffalo News

Final Score: The Hawks will have even more cap issues after this season, when the extensions of Kane and Toews kick in. Just as it was after their 2010 Cup, this could be a last run for the current core. That will be some big motivation. Look for Kane to visit South Buffalo with Lord Stanley again next summer. St. Louis Blues Plus: They had to be one of the best teams ever to lose a first-round series when they fell last season to Chicago in six games after winning the first two. Most of that cast is back, sans Ryan Miller of course. David Backes is an acknowledged star while T.J. Oshie burst on the scene at the Olympics and Vladimir Tarasenko became a huge weapon as well. They even signed Paul Stastny, whom Sabres fans had long coveted. The defense, led by Alex Pietrangelo, is very deep. Minus: Not many. source: http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/nhl-preview/central-division-blackhawks-take-flight-in-race-against-time-20141004

Gustav Nyquist scored the only goal in the shootout, and the Detroit Red Wings rallied for a 5-4 win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night. Detroit had trailed 4-1 before surging to victory. Riley Sheahan, Xavier Ouellet, Justin Abdelkader and Drew Miller scored for the Red Wings in regulation. Backup goalie Petr Mrazek, in his second start of the season, made 21 saves for Detroit through overtime. Mike Cammalleri scored two power-play goals for New Jersey. Jaromir Jagr got his 709th goal, moving into sole possession of sixth place on the NHL career list one ahead of Mike Gartner. Peter Harrold also scored for the Devils. Nyquist beat Cory Schneider in the third round of the shootout, and Mrazek sealed the win with a pad stop on Michael Ryder. The Red Wings have won three in a row and five of six. Niklas Kronwell and Henrik Zetterberg each chipped in two assists. RANGERS 3, FLYERS 0: In Philadelphia, Martin St. Louis reached 1,000 career points with a goal and an assist as New York blanked slumping Philadelphia for the second time in nine days. source: http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20141129/SPORTS20/311299977/-1/sports12

Blackhawks-Canucks Preview – Yahoo Sports

All cap figures provided courtesy of capgeek.com. Current Statistics (as of 11/27/14): 1 goal, 4 assists, 5 points Current Cap Hit: $5,000,000 Notes: Martin has been a steady presence his whole career. He was a consistent defender with the New Jersey Devils for the first six years of his career before signing a five-year contract with the Penguins in 2010. Known more for his defensive prowess, Martin still has the ability to quarterback a power play and chip in on offense. It’s very unlikely Pittsburgh will hand Martin another deal with the plethora of defensive prospects in its system. Though Martin will likely be traded before this year’s trading deadline, chances are he’ll still hit the free-agent market as one of the most desirable free-agent defenders available. Current Statistics (as of 11/27/14):3 goals, 9 assists, 12 points Current Cap Hit: $6,083,000 Notes:More of a name than a producer the last few seasons, Green warrants a big contract based on what he’s done in the past. Tallying back-to-back 70-point seasons earlier in his career (2008-09, ’09-10), it wasn’t too long ago that Green was the premier young defensemen in the league. His numbers have softened since, having not reached 40 points the past five seasons. There’s no denying the talent is there, and knowing the Capitals signed defensemen Brooks Orpik and Matt Niskanen to big money this past offseason, Green would appear to be in line for a huge free-agent payday at just 29 years old. Current Statistics (as of 11/27/14): 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 points Current Cap Hit: $4,150,000 Notes: In what will be a paper-thin free-agent class for wingers, Chris Stewart may be the best not named Martin St. Louis . source: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2282432-nhl-free-agents-who-will-score-big-contracts-next-summer
