Blackhawks looking for consistency on circus trip – Washington Times

Louis Blues in a matchup of high-level defensive teams. The Blues and Jets are currently first and fifth in the league in goals allowed per game, respectively, and neither team boasts a particularly potent offense. This one will probably be low-scoring, if that’s your thing. It also marks the first game between St. Louis and Winnipeg since March 17, 2014, a game that chaotically ended with a line brawl and last-second goal that was taken away after initially being awarded. Who knows how the memories of that contest might come back to impact the actions of those involved Sunday afternoon? Meanwhile, arguably the biggest matchup of the night gets the NHL Network treatment as the New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens meet at Madison Square Garden. The rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference Finals should feature the usual strong goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist and Carey Price , so it’ll be up to the offenses to provide some fireworks. Price has been rolling lately, saving 64 of 65 shots over the past two games against St. Louis and Boston. Lundvquist hasn’t been quite as strong, though the Rangers shut out the Flyers , 2-0, in their last game with Cam Talbot in goal. The final two games of the night see the Arizona Coyotes face the Anaheim Ducks and the Chicago Blackhawks visit the Vancouver Canucks . source: http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2014/11/23/7269739/2014-nhl-schedule-rangers-canadiens

NHL scores: Blackhawks blow out Oilers, Islanders get revenge against Penguins – SBNation.com

Reuters The 2014-2015 NHL season is about five weeks old, and there have been few surprises as parity remains prevalent. No team is running away in the standings, and there might be some sleeping giants. The Chicago Blackhawks lead all teams as the Stanley Cup favorites at 7/1, according to vegasinsider.com. They are followed by the Pittsburgh Penguins at 8/1, the Boston Bruins at 9/1, and the Los Angeles Kings and Minnesota Wild at 10/1. Of the five teams, only the Penguins lead their division. Still there are some familiar faces leading their respective divisions. A hot start to the season could also be crucial for teams to gain home-ice advantage in the postseason, as the current parity can switch off during the regular season with injuries, slumps, and trades. The Montreal Canadiens lead the league in team points while riding a five-game winning streak. Head coach Michel Therrien might be an early candidate to win Coach of the Year honors partially due to the faith he has put into veteran defenseman Tom Gilbert. Gilbert, 31, signed as a free agent in the offseason after basically replacing Josh Gorges, who moved on to the Buffalo Sabres. The unsung hero has been received plenty of ice time while the Habs are at full-strength, during power plays, and while defending power plays, and more importantly, has been a solid complement for P.K. Subban, Andrei Markov, and Alexei Emelin. Hes fitting in really well, Therrien said of Gilbert in October. Hes starting to build a good chemistry with Andrei Markov. source: http://www.ibtimes.com/nhl-news-habs-penguins-blues-ducks-leading-divisions-which-team-favored-win-2015-1724528

NHL News: Habs, Penguins, Blues And Ducks Leading Divisions, Which Team Is Favored To Win 2015 Stanley Cup?

While Edmonton isn’t exactly a daunting opponent, the home team looked totally overwhelmed by the speed and execution of Chicago. It took the Blackhawks less than five minutes to get their first two goals of the night on Ben Scrivens , and less than 25 minutes to earn a 6-0 lead. The game’s urgency understandably took a step back from there as the result was more or less settled before the midway point, with both teams scoring once apiece. Patrick Kane ‘s score in the third period to extend his goal streak to four games was impressive, but the final 30-plus minutes were mostly an exercise in futility. For the Blackhawks, who have routinely put up dominant possession numbers and unreasonably low shooting percentages, this was really the perfect matchup to break out. The Oilers aren’t as bad as their records indicates, but goaltending has been a major issue for the team this season, and Saturday’s performance didn’t build much confidence. The Blackhawks entered Saturday taking over 37 shots per game, easily the highest in the league, but their shooting percentage was 7.4 percent — 28th in the league. An offense led by guys like Kane, Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews was going to start finding the back of the net more regularly, and on Saturday, that’s precisely what happened. The team only got 30 shots, but a 23.3 shooting percentage certainly swayed the results. Chicago doesn’t one of the best records in the league yet, but it’s climbing the standings, and few teams have played better of late. Not as if you needed a reminder, but the Blackhawks are indeed for real this season. NHL schedule 2014: Rangers-Canadiens highlights Sunday slate – SBNation.com

Adam Clendening was promoted from the minors on Tuesday and likely will make his NHL debut on the upcoming road trip. Ive just been working on my game and these guys here, to their credit, have probably the best six around the league, said Clendening, a second-round pick in the 2011 draft who could see some time at the point on Chicagos second power-play unit. So its definitely been a little bit of a waiting game, but again, bad bounce for a guy and hopefully I can just fill in and help them not miss a beat. Quenneville could slot Clendening into van Riemdsyks spot, or he might tinker with his top four defensemen to spread out his most reliable players. Crawford, for one, doesnt seem too worried about the situation. That was tough for Riems. I mean he was playing so well, Crawford said. Obviously, it must be pretty frustrating for him; for us, too, to lose a guy like that. But Clendending, hes a really skilled defenseman, and he moves the puck well. Im sure hell do fine when he gets his chance, too. The Blackhawks also are playing without forward Patrick Sharp, who had a team-high 34 goals last season and is out with a lower-body injury. The team said Sharp would miss three to four weeks after he was hurt Nov. 4, and Quenneville has stuck with that timeline when asked about the winger. source: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/nov/19/blackhawks-looking-for-consistency-on-circus-trip/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&utm_medium=RSS
