NHL schedule 2014: Hartnell returns to Philly, Blackhawks face Red Wings – SBNation.com

Hes fitting in really well, Therrien said of Gilbert in October. Hes starting to build a good chemistry with Andrei Markov. Hes responsible defensively and hes part of our top four. He moves the puck really well and we believe hes a good addition to our team. Therrien has been able to keep the Canadiens in early contention behind just a five-plus goal differential. But the Penguins have also had a strong season in the East, leading the Metropolitan Division with 25 points in 16 games and dominating opponents with a plus-25 goal differential. Sidney Crosby continues to be among the most effective centers in the league, trailing just Philadelphia Flyers Jakub Voracek in points. Pittsburgh leads the league with 3.63 goals per game, and the Pens are the only team with four players having scored seven goals or more thus far. Out in the West, the Anaheim Ducks have the best record in the conference with Frederik Andersen off to a scorching start. The 25-year-old Dane has a 1.87 goal-allowed average, and is third in the NHL in save percentage (.933). Head coach Bruce Boudreau has relied on Andersen with John Gibson expected to be sidelined until mid-December due to a groin injury. I have all the faith in the world in Freddie, Boudreau told the Orange County Register. Sometimes stuff happens. source: http://www.ibtimes.com/nhl-news-habs-penguins-blues-ducks-leading-divisions-which-team-favored-win-2015-1724528

NHL scores 2014: Red Wings humble Blackhawks, Blue Jackets snap 9-game skid – SBNation.com

That might not seem like a big deal with Columbus struggling, but it marks the return of Scott Hartnell to Philly. As you may remember, Hartnell was traded to Columbus in the offseason in a deal that sent R.J. Umberger to the Flyers. While things aren’t going so hot for Umberger, Hartnell is third on the Blue Jackets in points behind Ryan Johansen and Nick Foligno . Those three players are the only ones in double figures for the Blue Jackets so far this season. Most players that return to Philadelphia may not get a hero’s welcome upon returning but expect Hartnell to get just that when he’s introduced at Wells Fargo Center. Elsewhere, the Chicago Blackhawks visit the Detroit Red Wings at 7:30 p.m. for one of their two meetings this season. Both Detroit and Chicago come in with 19 points and the Blackhawks have won two in a row. Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins had their eight-game win streak snapped rudely by the New York Rangers on Tuesday and will look to get back into it against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Center at 7:30 p.m. Here is a complete look a the NHL schedule on Friday and the coverage for each game. source: http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2014/11/14/7218137/2014-nhl-schedule-penguins-maple-leafs-hartnell-flyers-blue-jackets

Former Union goalie enjoys stellar debut – Times Union

Carolina Hurricanes

After an even first period that saw Luke Glendening and Patrick Kane trade goals, the Red Wings found their way in the second with goals from Johan Franzen and Tomas Tatar . Detroit outshot Chicago, 37-26. Pavel Datsyuk returned to the Detroit lineup after he missed the past two games with a groin problem. He had an assist on Brendan Smith’s empty-net goal in 16:46. The Pittsburgh Penguins played an outstanding defensive game in a 2-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Hall of Fame Night in Toronto. The Penguins got two goals from Pascal Dupuis and Thomas Greiss made 30 saves. Cody Franson extended his point streak to six straight games with a third period goal. Penguins 2, Maple Leafs 1 Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 1 Coyotes 5, Canucks 0 3 Things We Learned 1. Maybe Cory Schneider doesn’t need a day off after all. Schneider has started every game this season for the Devils, 17 straight, and while there have been nights where it looked like he could use a night off, he was strong against the Capitals on Friday with a 30-save shutout. The Devils play again on Saturday against Colorado and there’s no reason to think coach Peter DeBoer is going to alter his plan now, especially after such a brilliant performance. 2. source: http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2014/11/15/7224013/2014-nhl-scores-blue-jackets-snap-losing-streak-red-wings-beat-blackhawks

Red Wings’ slow start ends in loss | The Journal Gazette

Montreal took a 1-0 lead at 3:20 of the second, shortly after killing a Red Wings penalty. Detroit botched a line change, allowing Brandon Prust to pick up a loose puck and beat Jimmy Howard with a wrist shot from the top of the faceoff circle. The Canadiens doubled their lead with a fluke goal at 8:36, as P.K. Subbans slapper from the blue line hit the inside of Kyle Quincys left thigh and deflected over Howards shoulder. Detroit finally beat Tokarski at 4:06 when Riley Sheahan knocked in a loose puck for a power-play goal. Gallagher put away the game with another odd goal. His shot from behind the line ricocheted in off Howards catching glove. BLACKHAWKS 6, STARS 2: In Chicago, Patrick Kane and Kris Versteeg each had a goal and two assists, as Chicago rallied with four goals in the third period. Kane connected from a sharp angle early in the third period to snap a 2-2 tie. Jonathan Toews, Versteeg, and Brandon Saad scored in a 2:55 span later in the period to put the game away. source: http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20141117/SPORTS2004/311179994/-1/sports12

Connecticut’s Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis shoots during the second half of an NCAA women

“I don’t think we’ve wasted any goalkeeper performances,” said the Hurricanes’ Eric Staal . “They’re doing what they’re supposed to do and making the saves. We’ve got to contribute with some offense. Tonight it was everything but the goals and that can be frustrating.” It marked Carolina’s second shutout loss of the season. Khudobin, Carolina’s backup goalie, finished with 17 saves and still is seeking his first home win. Wild 4, Jets 3 (OT): Marco Scandella scored at 1:01 of overtime after missing two games with an illness. Minnesota was reeling after blowing a 3-0 lead in the third period. But Scandella’s third goal of the season a low wrist shot from just inside the blue line that beat Michael Hutchinson prevented the Wild from losing their second game this year after losing a three-goal lead. Zach Parise scored two goals in his return from a concussion and helped give Minnesota a 3-0 lead after the first. But Winnipeg scored three goals in five minutes in the third to tie it. Canadiens 4, Wings 1: Brendan Gallagher had a goal and an assist while Dustin Tokarski made 28 saves for Montreal. source: http://www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Former-Union-goalie-enjoys-stellar-debut-5897645.php

Huh, AP Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk (57), right,… Bullard-Havens dominates Abbott Tech/Immaculate Page 1 of 1 CHICAGO (AP) The NHL has changed Trevor van Riemsdyk ‘s first career goal into the first assist for the rookie defenseman with the Chicago Blackhawks . Van Riemsdyk was credited with a goal on a big slap shot in the first period of Chicago’s 5-2 victory over San Jose on Sunday night. But the NHL changed the scoring on the play on Monday, ruling forward Kris Versteeg got a piece of the shot for career goal No. 106. The scoring change also eliminated a historic first period for the Blackhawks. When the goal was credited to van Reimsdyk, it was the first time three defensemen scored in a single period for Chicago since the third period of an 8-1 victory over Edmonton on Nov. 27, 1992. Old-fashioned police work, with some help from photos of the riders published online by Hearst Connecticut Media, led to the seizure of… source: http://www.ctpost.com/sports/article/Van-Riemsdyk-loses-1st-goal-after-NHL-change-5884051.php
