Chicagos scoring spree in the first started when Toews sent a faceoff back to van Riemsdyk, who blasted a slap shot by a screened Niemi 8 minutes into the game. Seabrook extended the lead to 2-0 at 14:10 when he scored on a one-timer off a pass from Brad Richards. With the sellout crowd of 21,489 still celebrating Seabrooks third goal, Hjalmarsson used a nicely placed wrist shot to record his first goal of the season at 14:34. It was the first time three defensemen scored in a single period for Chicago since Frantisek Kucera, Igor Kravchuk and Steve Smith scored in the third period of an 8-1 victory over Edmonton on Nov. 27, 1992. The fast start also came with coach Joel Quenneville trying a couple of new defensive pairings. The 23-year-old van Riemsdyk played with two-time Norris Trophy winner Duncan Keith, and Seabrook, who struggled in Friday nights 3-2 loss to Washington, was alongside Rundblad. San Jose bounced back quickly after Hjalmarssons goal. Pavelski had a nice redirection on Justin Brauns slap shot, trimming Chicagos lead to 3-1 at 15:32, and the Sharks outplayed the Blackhawks for much of the second period. San Jose center Joe Thornton was shaken up after Andrew Shaw hit him on his nose with his stick in the second period. But Thornton got his revenge after Shaw was sent off for high sticking, making a nice pass through the crease to set up Pavelskis seventh goal of the season at 4:51. The Sharks then had a chance to tie it at 3, but Crawford made a right pad save on a breakaway for Barclay Goodrow with 8 minutes left in the second. source: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/11/09/blackhawks-top-sharks-5-2/

Three Periods: Stralman’s complete story; Lehtera looks like a veteran; NHL notes – Yahoo Sports

Stralman has stepped up and filled the void left by the injury absence of Victor Hedman. (USA Today)

View gallery . Lehtera is leading the way on the high-flying ‘STL Line’ for the Blues. (USA Today) The Blues have been a structured, possession monster, but they have needed more offensive punch. Now they have the STL line Jaden Schwartz , Vladimir Tarasenko and Lehtera. All three have had hat tricks. They have accounted for 21 goals in 15 games; the rest of the Blues have combined for only 18. Hitchcock called Lehtera, the center, the sturdy anchor on the line. He comes back deep defensively and gets the puck to his wingers with speed, and thats how they generate much of their offense. Lehtera has six goals and 14 points in his first 14 NHL games. I think the thing thats impressed me is, they just dont cheat the game, Hitchcock said. They play the game honestly. Theyre willing to backcheck. Theyre willing to play the game with an honest level. The Blues drafted Lehtera in the third round in 2008, but they couldnt convince him to play in North America. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/three-periods–stralman-s-complete-story–lehtera-looks-like-a-veteran–nhl-notes-220032552-nhl.html

The Red Wings also outshot Chicago 37-26, becoming just the third team to outshoot the Blackhawks this season. “I hope we’re not happy or satisfied that we’re either not winning or giving them goals carelessly, or serving them up the way we did tonight,” Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. Friday’s loss spoiled Chicago’s chance for its first three-game win streak of the season. The Blackhawks have not gone this long without a three-game win streak to open a season since 2006-07, when it took them 24 games. Dallas (6-7-4) has also failed to string together three straight this season, squandering an opportunity to do so Saturday in a 2-1 defeat to Minnesota. Kari Lehtonen followed his first shutout of the season Thursday by allowing two goals on 22 shots. The 20 saves marked a season-low for the 11-year veteran. “We have to be mentally prepared to play these games at home,” captain Jamie Benn told the Stars’ official website after the team lost its sixth straight in Dallas. “We have no excuses. We have to be better.” Lehtonen will likely get the start Sunday against Chicago, a team he has failed to beat in his last three attempts. Lehtonen’s 2.68 goals-against average ranks near the bottom of the NHL for goaltenders with 10 or more starts. Chicago has won nine of 10 against Dallas, including a 3-2 shootout victory on Oct. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/stars-blackhawks-preview-020417215–nhl.html
