Sharks’ defenseman Justin Braun not concerned about Roussel punch, hearing – San Jose Mercury News

It was the Coyotes ‘ third straight win, all by one-goal margins after beating Washington and Toronto. Ryan Getzlaf and Matt Beleskey scored for the two-time Pacific Division-champion Ducks and Frederik Andersen made 23 saves after missing two games with stiffness in his leg. Getzlaf returned to the lineup after missing Wednesday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Islanders because of the flu. But linemate Corey Perry , who leads the league with 11 goals, sat out his second straight game for the same reason. RED WINGS 4, DEVILS 2 DETROIT (AP) – Niklas Kronwall scored on a lucky bounce and Detroit beat New Jersey to snap a three-game skid. Jakub Kindl , Brendan Smith and Johan Franzen also scored for the Red Wings , who outshot the Devils 31-17. Jimmy Howard finished with 15 saves. Steve Bernier and Jordin Tootoo scored for the Devils, who lost their third straight. Cory Schneider stopped 20 shots while giving up all four goals in the first two periods, and was replaced by Keith Kinkaid to start the third. Kinkaid stopped all seven shots he faced. Kronwall’s long slap shot late in the second sailed past the net and ricocheted straight back off the boards. The puck hit the back of Schneider’s left leg and rolled in to give the Red Wings a 4-1 lead. source:

Corey Crawford stopped 26 shots in his second start in two nights after he missed six games with an upper-body injury. The Blackhawks lost their second straight and are 2-5 in their last seven. Chicago was beaten 1-0 for the second consecutive home game. Both teams played for the third time in four nights. Winnipeg went 3-0-1 on its four-game trip. The Blackhawks entered leading the NHL with an average of 38.9 shots per game, but were only 21st at 2.46 goals. They had a hard time against Hutchinson and the scrappy Jets. Chicago was unable to generate much traffic in front of the net or pounce on rebounds. The Jets got all the offense they needed early as they moved straight into the Chicago zone off the opening faceoff. Frolik, a former Blackhawks player, skated across the crease, closed in from the left side and lifted the puck past Crawford’s glove as the goalie sprawled trying to stop the shot. Chicago’s Patrick Sharp broke in alone with 3:40 left in the first and faked Hutchinson to the ice, but his shot clanked off the right post. Jonathan Toews fired a drive from the left circle off the left post midway through the second during a Chicago power play. source:

With 1:09 left in the Sharks’ game against the Stars on Saturday, Roussel knocked goalie Alex Stalock to the ice just after Stalock batted the puck into the seats. In the ensuing scrum, with Stalock still on the ice, Roussel tangled with Braun and punched him in the face as Braun’s arms were tied up by an official. “You don’t want that to happen in the game, but whatever they decide to do, they decide to do,” Braun said Sunday before the Sharks faced the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center. “We just have to go about our business.” Roussel earned two minutes for knocking down Stalock and a 10-minute misconduct for the punch on Braun, who had an assist on Joe Thornton’s empty-net goal with 42 seconds left that capped a 5-3 come-from-behind win for the Sharks. Braun said he was thinking the Sharks would receive a man advantage after the sequence of events. But Stalock was called for delay of game for sending the puck out of play, to match Roussel’s two minutes for goaltender interference. “A scrum broke out, I didn’t think it was going to turn into that, and end up getting punched in the face,” Braun said. “You can’t really do much about it. I thought it was either going to be a penalty, and he ended up getting thrown out of the game. He’ll likely be paired again Sunday with Marc-Edouard Vlasic. source:

Blackhawks-Canadiens Preview – Yahoo Sports

I think we’ll keep working hard, and the small details will take care of themselves.” The Blackhawks have lost five of seven, beating Ottawa twice in that span, while going 4 for 24 on the power play. Things could have been worse, but Chicago went 19 for 20 on the penalty kill during that stretch. “Every game has been close,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “We’ve lost some tough games here. It’s just something that we haven’t seen before with the lack of production.” Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa, who combined for 64 goals last season, have totaled just five, and Sharp has been held without a point in the last five games. Toews leads the team with four goals, which ranks outside the top 40 league-wide. Montreal (8-3-1) is experiencing similar troubles, managing five goals in four games. The Canadiens were thrashed 6-2 on Sunday by Calgary to mark their first back-to-back defeats after a 3-2 overtime loss in Vancouver on Thursday. “If we knew the reason why it happened, we’d have a lot more answers right now,” left wing Max Pacioretty said. “But the only thing that I know is that it’s unacceptable.” Pacioretty has a team-leading five goals and has scored in two straight games, but the rest of the offense has gone cold. source:–nhl.html
