He appeared in one game the following season before being released. In the Outlaws inaugural season, he posted a 2-4 record with a .888 save percentage. That Scott Darling, who graduated from North Central High School in Manly and grew up in Lemont, Illinois, is now in the NHL where he has started two games in net for the Chicago Blackhawks, going 1-1 with a 1.03 goals-against average. “The ultimate goal is to play in the NHL, but I know I need to develop more and it’s always been my dream to play college hockey, Darling told the Globe Gazette upon being drafted in 2007. It was a long, winding road for Darling to reach hockeys pinnacle. He was a sixth-round pick in the 2007 NHL draft by the Phoenix Coyotes but opted to attend the University of Maine, where he played for two years. He spent time in the East Coast Hockey League (Florida Everblades and Wheeling Nailers) before playing in the American Hockey League (Wilkes-Barre Penguins, Hamilton Bulldogs and Milwaukee Admirals) over the past two seasons. He made his NHL debut on Sunday when he stopped 33 shots in a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators. Blues top Blackhawks, snap skid at 2 games – Washington Times

St. Louis Blues

When I got off the ice after practice, the coaches pulled me aside and told me the situation, that I was going to Chicago. I hopped in a cab from the rink and went to the airport and was on a place an hour after I got off the ice. I didnt know if it was going to be just for a night, I wasnt really sure. But I was super excited for my first call-up. I called my girlfriend and my parents and those were the only calls I was able to make before I got on a plane. Darling was the back-up to Antii Raanta for three games before getting the start against the Ottawa Senators, making 32 saves and leading the Blackhawks to the 2-1 win, his first victory in an NHL sweater. I was pretty nervous during the day while I was waiting to go to the rink, he said. I was thinking about the game and also reminiscing about the path that led me there, just looking back on everything. By the time I got to the rink, I tried to treat it like another hockey game. And the guys were awesome, they were trying to calm me down and keep me loose. When I got out there, it was an amazing experience. When the final buzzer went, it was a huge feeling of relief and excitement. I was really happy to get my first game and win and that is something nobody can take away from me. After the game, the 25-year old was named the No. source: http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/2014/10/30/lemonts-darling-shines-as-chicago-blackhawks-starting-goalie/acyy7kd/

I thought we all stepped up to the plate. The Blues (3-3-1), who lost in six games to the Blackhawks in the first round of the playoffs last spring, had scored just once in losing back-to-back games to Anaheim and Vancouver. They had dropped three of four games, including a shootout defeat in Los Angeles. We hit a bit of a lull the last two games and we needed a great performance, and who better than our biggest rivals to bring it out of us, Blues captain David Backes said. Guys put together a heck of a 60-minute effort. Brian Elliott made 22 saves for St. Louis, including nine in the third period. Antti Raanta made 28 saves for the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks (4-2-1) have dropped two straight in regulation, falling again after being beaten in Nashville on Thursday. The Blues committed two penalties within the first minute, and the Blackhawks took advantage with Patrick Sharps 5-on-3 power-play goal, assisted by Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa, just 1:02 into the game. The first five minutes were a little bit of a whirlwind, and everybody kind of calmed things down, and we got our game going, Elliott said. Thats the way we need to play, just that even-keeled mentality. source: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/oct/26/blues-top-blackhawks-snap-skid-at-2-games/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&utm_medium=RSS
