James Neal’s Hat Trick Lifts Nashville Past Chicago 3-2; Preds Still Unbeaten In Regulation | Star Tribune

The Blackhawks pulled goalie Antti Raanta for the extra attacker. Rinne gloved the puck out of the air with 1:18 left with Shaw trying to score. Chicago coach Joel Quenneville took his timeout, but the Blackhawks couldn’t beat Rinne despite outshooting Nashville 32-27. The Blackhawks left goalie Corey Crawford at home for this two-game road swing because of an upper body injury, and Raanta got his second straight start. The Predators outshot Chicago early with a flurry of action in front of Raanta. But Smith flipped a wrister over Rinne’s outstretched leg off a rebound at 12:21 for a 1-0 lead for the Blackhawks. Nashville failed to take advantage of a power play when Marcus Kruger went to the box for high-sticking Colin Wilson, but defenseman Seth Jones found Neal with a nice cross-ice pass. Neal beat Raanta stick-side, tying it 1-1 in the final minute of the period. Chicago got its first man advantage at 13:07 of the second, and the Blackhawks took turns shooting at Rinne. He stopped drives from Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, and a slap shot from Patrick Sharp in killing the penalty. The Predators broke the tie at 16:12 of the second when the puck squirted over to Neal just inside the left circle near the slot, and his slap shot beat Raanta’s glove. Neal completed his hat trick at 1:52 of the third from the side on a wrister. source: http://www.startribune.com/sports/wild/280269332.html

NHL Scores: Brawl breaks out in Anaheim, Darling wins debut in Chicago – SBNation.com

line brawl starts

The 25-year-old netminder (and Chicago native) signed with Chicago as a free agent during the summer but as a backup. An injury to starter Corey Crawford paved the way for Darling to make his first NHL start on Sunday, and he did not disappoint. Darling made 32 saves and only allowed one goal in a superb effort in net as Chicago downed the Senators. 3. The Avalanche are as inconsistent as ever. Watching them sputter against the Jets on Sunday, you’d never know they routed the Canucks 7-3 on Friday. Credit to Winnipeg for clogging up the neutral zone to hinder Colorado’s forwards, but at this point you expect the Avs to find ways through those issues. Once again, Colorado’s considerable talent couldn’t overcome its shortcomings. Impact Moment By far the scariest moment of the night came when Foligno had to be stretchered off in the third period after colliding with a referee . Someone mentioned on Twitter that it’s the bizarre plays that always seem to result in concussions or head injuries, and that seems appropriate. No matter how much the NHL tries to crack down on hits to the head, the nature of the sport creates freak plays that could seriously injure a player. source: http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2014/10/27/7076825/nhl-scores-brawl-ducks-sharks-blackhawks-kings

NHL Three Stars: Nielsen leads Islanders rally; Jagr, Larsson win in OT | Puck Daddy – Yahoo Sports

A lot has to do with proximity either by car eight hour drive or by air 50 minute flight. It also helps that Southwest Airlines has an incredible amount of direct flights from Midway Airport to Nashville. Last season the Predators tried a campaign to Keep the Red Out where if you bought a ticket to a Predators/Blackhawks game, you had to buy one for a non-Predators/Blackhawks game later in the year. The deal was in some ways a success, because two of the three games were sellouts, though Hawks fans still dominated the crowds. Most of Thursday, the Predators official team Twitter had been informing fans about how to get rid of their red outfits for the evening’s game between the two teams. PSA on the red redemption: if it’s attached to someone’s head please don’t try to turn it in. #savethegingers #CHIvsNSH Nashville Predators (@PredsNHL) October 23, 2014 Below is the new campaign to make it harder for Chicago fans to go to Nashville games via email from the Predators: -Game was included in all season-ticket packages, to make sure the Loyal Legion had tickets to the game. -Pre-sale opportunities to season-ticket holders, first access to buy game individual game tickets (this game included) -Single-game buyers in viewing area opportunity to buy game through pre-sale codes -Individual tickets went on sale at Bridgestone Arena only, [so] people in Nashville would have opportunity to buy single game tickets (including this game), first -Following all of the above, tickets went on sale to the general public/outer market. And the promotions! – Free popcorn to any fans wearing gold -Turn in any red item to Fan Information and get a Preds ticket voucher (one voucher per person). Red items will be donated to the Chicago Rescue Mission -Turn in a Hawks sweater and receive a Preds sweatshirt When it comes to the Predators or any NHL team if a building is full, a promotion clearly works. And there actually seemed to be fewer Blackhawks fans at the Thursday game than usual per the iPhone photo from the Preds press box from the start of the contest at the bottom of the page. But in this golden age of the Blackhawks, and Southwest Airlines, good luck in keeping their fans out of any building. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/blackhawks-fans-invade-nashville-in-large-numbers-010621957.html

Blackhawks fans invade Nashville in large numbers (again) | Puck Daddy – Yahoo Sports

As someone who has never played professional hockey or worked in an NHL front office, I can’t profess to be a smarter hockey person than Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford, who played the game and GM’d the Carolina Hurricanes to a Stanley Cup in 2006. So when Rutherford says he wants to extend the contract of goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, we should accept the opinion of a former goaltender and Cup winner with years of no wait really come on you’re going to extend Fleury? Rob Rossi of the Tribune-Review has the quote that has to be real because he tweeted it but is still quite unbelievable. Writing Fleury column for Wednesday, and check out this quote from Rutherford: ‘as long as I’m the GM, he’ll be our goalie.’ #pens Rob Rossi (@RobRossi_Trib) October 21, 2014 Here’s Rossi’s full column , which has that quote again, so it must be real. I know the potential UFA market for goaltenders is bleak: Antti Niemi, Michal Neuvirth and Viktor Fasth perhaps top the group and are no guarantee to be available next summer anyway. So I get it, that out of that group, Fleury is probably the best goaltender available. And Fleury is very good friends with Sidney Crosby , and there’s something to be said about the power Crosby has within that team and how that can be a factor. But Fleury is, quite frankly, a terrible playoff goaltender and simply can’t be trusted to backstop a team to a championship. Fleury’s save percentages the past five postseasons: .891, .899, .834, .883 and .915. Fleury’s .915 over two rounds last year was better than Jonathan Quick’s .912, which was good enough to win the Kings a Stanley Cup. source: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2246518-dave-lozos-bag-skate-nhl-gets-it-right-with-moving-tributes-after-shootings
