Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Photo by Chris Lee, Blues Talk: Fans sound off on the 2014-15 season Searching for any vital signs from his team, Blues coach Ken Hitchcock claimed before Saturdays game against Chicago that the final tally on the Jumbotron would be of minimal significance. Regardless of the score tonight, I want to see us play our game and I want to see a lot of good minutes on it, Hitchcock said. If we get that consistent play and that consistent behavior, I just know whether its tonight or a week from now, were going to get on a roll here. Hitchcock may have flunked a lie-detector test when probed about winning or losing against the Blackhawks, who knocked the Blues out in the first round of the 2013-14 postseason. But he didnt have to sit down for one after his club passed its test in flying colors with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Hawks. In the Blues first meeting with Chicago since last Aprils playoff ouster, a highly charged victory was the result of a game-winning goal by just-recalled forward Dmitrij Jaskin in the waning seconds of the second period. The club withstood a third-period goal by Kris Versteeg to eke out the win on 22 saves by goaltender Brian Elliott. The Blues also picked up goals from a familiar source, Jaden Schwartz, and an unlikely contributor, Ryan Reaves, who delivered on a night in which the club desperately needed offense. source:

Blackhawks fall in Nashville for first regulation loss – – Rockford’s News Leader

Hes on a five-game point streak to start the season and is currently tied for the team-high with seven points in 2014-15. Thats in stark contrast to the slow start he endured last season. This is better than last year, Voracek said. I think I had [four] points in 15 games. If Im scoring and producing, were going to be scoring more goals and have a better chance to win the game. Thats what they are expecting of me. Im getting a lot of minutes on the ice, a lot of responsibilities. Its my job to make a difference in the game. Of course, beating Crawford is one thing, but the Flyers also need to play solid defensively. Theyve allowed 3.80 goals per game, although it might be a challenge for the Blackhawks to fully exploit that as their offense hasnt started firing on all cylinders yet. It will help Chicago that former Flyers forward Kris Versteeg seems set to make his season debut tonight. Hes projected to play on the second line with Andrew Shaw and Patrick Kane while Brandon Saad will slide to the third line. source:

The Predators outshot Chicago early with a flurry of action in front of Raanta. But Smith flipped a wrister over Rinne’s outstretched leg off a rebound at 12:21 for a 1-0 lead for the Blackhawks. Nashville failed to take advantage of a power play when Marcus Kruger went to the box for high-sticking Colin Wilson, but defenseman Seth Jones found Neal with a nice cross-ice pass. Neal beat Raanta stick-side, tying it 1-1 in the final minute of the period. Chicago got its first man advantage at 13:07 of the second, and the Blackhawks took turns shooting at Rinne. He stopped drives from Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, and a slap shot from Patrick Sharp in killing the penalty. The Predators broke the tie at 16:12 of the second when the puck squirted over to Neal just inside the left circle near the slot, and his slap shot beat Raanta’s glove. Neal completed his hat trick at 1:52 of the third from the side on a wrister. NOTES: Neal’s previous hat trick was Dec. 29, 2013, against Carolina while he was with the Penguins. It was Nashville’s first hat trick at home since Sergei Kostitsyn had one on Jan. source:
