Blackhawks’ fourth line has the potential to be a lot of fun in 2014-15 – Yahoo Sports

But we’ll see. He has worked for Showtime on sports before so it’s not like he’s never gone out of the HBO family. The hope here lies with Epix producer Ross Greenburg, formerly of HBO and the original producer of24/7. Reports indicate that they’ll be spending a lot of money per episode to produce the program, which is of course a good thing for the finished product. Greenburg worked with the NHL on their in-house “NHL 36” and “NHL Revealed” programs, and while those programs were good, they left us wanting a little bit more and they weren’t quite as compelling as HBO 24/7. So we’ll see where Greenburg takes us this time. The Epix program will be completely uncensored, although we do assume that the NHL will have final say in exactly what airs — veto power, if you will. Americans will be able to watch … for free Much like the old HBO program, Canadian viewers will have the opportunity to watch a censored version on Rogers Sportsnet. That’s kind of a bummer for Canadian fans, but on the bright side, at least there’s no Canadian team featured this year. source:

Morning Bag Skate: Teuvo Teravainen to miss preseason game vs. Red Wings on Thursday – Yahoo Sports

Red Wings on Thursday By Satchel Price 36 minutes ago . Our daily look at Blackhawks news and the happenings around the world of hockey. Another preseason contest for the Blackhawks on Thursday night — one game in, I already feel like we’re all just hoping to make it through the exhibition schedule unscathed. There probably won’t be as much coverage of the matchup against Detroit since it doesn’t appear to be on TV, but we’ll still be keeping up through various channels. Onto the news. **Teuvo Teravainen returned to practice Wednesday but he’s already been ruled out for the preseason game tonight (CSN Chicago) **Stan Bowman has generally done a very good job as GM, but Sam Fels points out some of the recent missteps that have led us to our current cap crunch. (The Committed Indian) **The Rangers will be without top center Derek Stepan for several weeks after he suffered a broken leg during conditioning tests (Blueshirt Banter) ** Pavel Datsyuk will also be missing a few weeks due to a separated shoulder. The Red Wings just can’t seem to catch a break lately. (Pro Hockey Talk) **The Islanders are giving Mikhail Grabovski first crack at filling the left wing spot next to John Tavares and Kyle Okposo (Newsday) **How will the Rangers overcome losing Stepan? ( Puck Daddy ) ** Jordan Subban took the high road after The Vancouver Sun ran an offensive caption below a photo featuring the Canucks player. source:

Coming off a 3-2 loss to the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Thursday, Chicago looks to rebound with another home win to continue the exhibition schedule. When and where? The game starts at 7:30 p.m. CT from the UC. How to watch: The game is being broadcast on CSN Chicago, a welcomed return after last night’s game missed the airwaves. We missed out on (or at least didn’t read tweets about) many of the big names on Thursday as they sat out, and it’s unclear for now how the lineup will roll out tonight. It appears that Teuvo Teravainen , Kris Versteeg and Joakim Nordstrom will have to wait until Sunday in Saskatoon to make their respective preseason debuts, which wouldn’t be so disappointing if the game wasn’t a radio-only broadcast. It appears that several bigger names will be playing tonight, however. Here’s the initial game rosters for both teams: #blackhawks lineup tonight against the Rangers. More of the regulars will play, but no Teuvo. source:

Toews’ OT goal gives Blackhawks win over Red Wings – StamfordAdvocate

That was mostly from the perspective that he doesn’t bring the type of skill to the bottom six that some other forwards might be able to. Let’s be real, though, any plea to keep Mashinter as far away from the lineup is going to fall on very deaf ears, given the coaching staff’s insistence on having that type of player in the lineup. Perhaps the largest reason that the Hawks should keep Mashinter out of the lineup is the fact that a fourth line without him in there could just be too much damn fun. In their scrimmage on Monday night, the Hawks rolled with a line that featured Jeremy Morin next to a familiar combination of Marcus Kruger and Ben Smith . There’s still an entire preseason to go, and plenty can still change, but it’s hard to imagine a fourth line that Hawks fans would love to see more than that trio. Last year, the combination of Bollig-Kruger-Smith was constantly used after the top line. They didn’t add much of anything to the stat sheet as far as offense is concerned, but they were an outstanding group a good deal of the time, even with Bollig in tow. They helped to shift momentum in the Hawks’ favor, generating a strong forecheck and playing a strong defensive game from that front line. Substituting Jeremy Morin in there for Bollig has the chance to add another level of excitement to that line. In Morin, you have a player who can play that physical game and bring a tenacious forecheck to the mix. Sure, his defense does leave a bit to be desired, but it’s an improving element of his game. He brings big offensive upside, and has the potential to help that group become more of a threat offensively than they were with Bollig and would be with Mashinter. source:

**Yes, yes, the Blackhawks beat the Red Wings in overtime, 2-1, last night. Not too shabby. (Second City Hockey) **More importantly, Patrick Kane delivered this fantastic breakaway goal that made the whole night worthwhile (Second City Hockey) **Well this is pretty much the worst case scenario for any team in the preseason. Carolina announced Jordan Staal suffered a broken leg in Tuesday’s game, meaning he’ll be out indefinitely. This is a major blow for a team already full of question marks. (Hurricanes) **Details on the new EPIX production of a series running up to the 2015 Winter Classic. The main gist: if you have a good Internet connection, you’ll be able to access this. (Pro Hockey Talk) ** Brandon Mashinter says he wants to be than just a physical presence, and he’ll need to be if he wants to make the team (CSN Chicago) **The Capitals revealed their vintage-inspired jerseys for the Winter Classic. Reaction has been mixed, and I’d say they’re a bit too noisy. Not a fan of those shoulder stripes. source:
