If that doesn’t sound like a lot, it’s because it isn’t. According to Epix, they’re available on a fair number of cable providers , but they’re not available (yet) on Comcast, Cablevision and DirecTV. On the upside, you can stream Epix on Epix.com, Kindle Fire, iOS devices, Android, Xbox 360, Roku, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Windows 8. On the downside, you have to already be subscribed to the channel to be able to do that and they don’t offer standalone subscriptions for the website or apps. So much for finding a backdoor way to get it. Will there be trouble getting the channel? Let’s let Burnside tell you that: As for distribution, Epix is available to 50 million U.S. subscribers and, as part of the agreement with the NHL, all hockey fans in the United States will have access to the finished product, sources told ESPN.com. Note that Epix doesn’t have 50 million actual subscribers. It’s available in roughly 50 million homes, which is an important distinction. We’ll get to find out more on this at the press conference in D.C. source: http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2014/9/15/6152277/nhl-winter-classic-blackhawks-capitals-documentary-epix-hbo

Lightning franchise ranked highly in ESPN’s latest pro team rankings – Yahoo Sports

TOPS: NFL predictions (9/21)

The 2013 Cup champions are focused on bettering last season’s finish. ”It’s motivation knowing our potential and how close we came,” Chicago captain Jonathan Toews said ahead of training camp on Friday at Notre Dame’s campus. ”(We’re) using that as a source of energy to improve upon.” The roster will look slightly different by the end of camp. The Blackhawks are still around $2.2 million above the NHL salary cap and will need to make a move, possibly in the form of a trade, to get below the cap before the puck drops on the regular season Oct. 9 at Dallas. Veteran defenseman Duncan Keith , the Norris Trophy winner, said the team knows a move is coming. ”Sure, I think about it,” Keith said Thursday. ”But it’s not something that’s a topic of conversation every day amongst us players. We all kind of know the business and obviously, management has to make some decisions. Trades are always part of the game and part of the business.” The Blackhawks’ big splash in offseason free agency came in the signing of 34-year old center Brad Richards , a key component in the New York Rangers’ run to the Stanley Cup Finals last season. Coach Joel Quenneville said Richards, who was signed to a one-year, $2 million deal, will start camp alongside second line wingers Patrick Kane and Brandon Saad. source: http://www.foxsports.com/nhl/story/chicago-blackhawks-open-training-camp-at-notre-dame-091814

ESPN is not looked at kindly in hockey circles these days because of the overall network bias against the professional sport, so depending who you are; you will likely take the following with hefty salt… It’s all subjective too. ESPN has issued a ranking of all 122 professional sports franchises in North America (we’re talking top-league stuff with MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL teams and an omission of MLS… at least this year) and Tampa Bay Lightning fans can crow about the overall perception of their franchise in the eyes of ESPN’s rankings. Let me give you the quote from the article how these are derived: The method to our ultimate madness First: Consulting firm Maddock Douglas surveyed 1,002 North American fans to form 25 criteria for what you want most in return for the emotion, money and time you invest in the 122 MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL teams. Second: Teaming with NetReflector, an opinion research firm, ESPN.com asked fans to rate their home teams in each area; more than 101,000 of you did! We grouped grades into the categories below. Royals fans, for example, ranked Kauffman Stadium much higher (29) than owner David Glass (112). Third: Our final measure, bang for the buck, uses calculations developed with Oregon’s Warsaw Sports Marketing Center to figure how well teams turn fans’ money into wins. FINALLY We combined each team’s score across all categories into a weighted average. For example, since fans ranked players as more important than ownership, the former counted for 13.9 percent of a team’s final score versus 11.3 percent for the latter. Morin is more polished right now and has earned the chance to lose the job. Regin will likely be the first guy off the bench when an injury is sustained. He can play both center and wing adequately and can play on any of the four lines. Hes a versatile player, but he doesnt really do anything that great. Versteeg will probably end up as the fourth-line left wing. While he was absolutely abysmal last season, theres a small glimmer of hope, as he may have been hampered by the effects of surgery he had in the summer of 2013. Could Versteeg be poised for a bounce-back season? Well, he cant be worse. Lack of toughness? I, for one, couldnt give two craps about having a goon on the roster, but Im not Quenneville. source: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/09/16/zawaski-blackhawks-still-need-to-make-move-to-get-under-salary-cap/
