Matt Stajan has also been a valuable asset to the organization both on and off the ice. After arriving in Calgary, Stajan quickly aligned himself with the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) taking over responsibilities of the Flames Ambassador for the hospital. Since then, he has personally donated season tickets every season to the ACH to give patients, family members and even hospital volunteers the opportunity to watch a Flames game. He has also visited the hospital on multiple occasions with his wife Katie where both actively volunteer with Bingo nights and with their annual radio-thon. These events take place on a regular basis for families at the hospital. Stajan is a frequent visitor whose participation is often not publicized. The couple also promote and participate in the ACH’s largest fundraiser in their radio-thon spending an entire day on phones and promoting the initiative through various media interviews as a spokesperson. In his time as an ambassador with ACH Stajan has created relationships with a number of patients that he has met, one notably; a terminally boy with cancer, who has now passed. Prior to Davis Weisner’s passing Stajan visited him on a regular basis including delivering Flames gifts to his home at Christmas time. Stajan has also donated his time for several auction packages featured at the Candy Cane Gala, one of the ACH’s largest fundraiser of the year. source: http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=669509

Kane, Toews lift Blackhawks to 3-1 win over Flames

“Suddenly we scored that short-handed goal and it gave us life. “Crawford came in with a couple of big saves, and I felt we made it a game.” Chicago goalie Ray Emery, who is 17-1, sat out because of a lower body injury, so Carter Hutton backed up Crawford. Entering the game, Crawford and Emery had combined to give the Blackhawks the NHL’s lowest team goal-against average at 1.97. The last time the Blackhawks led the NHL defensively was in the lockout-shortened 1994-95 season when Hall-of-Famer Ed Belfour played 42 games as their No. 1 goalie. Kane gave Chicago a 1-0 lead 9:34 into Friday’s game. After Patrick Sharp’s shot toward an empty net deflected off the shaft of Calgary defenseman Mark Cundari’s stick, Sharp jumped on the loose puck behind the net. He fed Kane, who beat MacDonald on the short side from close range. Toews made it 2-0 moments later when he swept into the crease and popped in a rebound of Brandon Saad’s shot from the slot. The Blackhawks had several prime chances early in the second, but MacDonald turned them aside. Butler cut it to 2-1 at 10:43 of the period with a screened high shot from 50 feet. The drive breezed past Calgary’s Ben Street and got past Crawford for his first goal in more than a year. source: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/hockey/nhl/gameflash/2013/04/26/32290_recap.html

Calgary Flames frustrated by yet another season out of the playoffs

“We have owners who are obviously always willing to spend right to the cap here in Calgary, so we’re fortunate as players to be here because it’s an organization that wants to win,” said Giordano, who is considered by many as one of the top candidates to become Calgary’s next captain after the mid-season trade of Jarome Iginla to the Pittsburgh Penguins. “I just keep doing what I’m doing, playing the same way and whatever comes with it, comes with it. I look at myself as a guy who can be a leader on our team and being an assistant captain for the past couple years, I’ve really enjoyed that rule.” Fact Check Have you found an error, or know of something we’ve missed in one of our stories? The Calgary Flames Must Stop Winning NHL Hockey Games

Module

Rather then being in the mix for Seth Jones or Drouin, Calgary is more likely to be drafting Sasha Barko v or Elias Lindholm. This may not prove to be a bad thing, but Drouin et al certainly look like better prospects right now.  Two teams with a much better looking set of young prospects, the aforementioned Edmonton Oilers and the Tampa Bay Lightning , are both likely to pick ahead of the Calgary Flames now in this year’s NHL entry draft.   The Flames have 42 points and three games left. If they match their current three-game winning streak they could pass the Flyers , Phoenix , Buffalo , New Jersey and end up tied with the Dallas Stars . This must not happen. The Calgary Flames need to lose their last three hockey games this year. The Flames can still finish very low in the standings. The only team that can’t catch them is Florida . I’m not advocating pulling the goalie in the middle of the second period or trying to throw a game. My advice though would be ease up. A six-game win streak at the end of this stub of a season will do nothing for the team. source: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1614434-the-calgary-flames-must-stop-winning-nhl-hockey-games
