Blue Jackets-Sharks Preview

They’ve earned two points in nine of their last 10 home games after beating Minnesota 6-1 on Thursday.. San Jose, just 8-12-2 on the road, is tied with Los Angeles for the fourth seed in the West and the accompanying home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.. “I think we’re going in the right direction now,” said forward Logan Couture, who had two goals and two assists Thursday.. “You always want to be playing well going into the playoffs.” Martin Havlat scored twice and added an assist for the Sharks, who are 11-2-1 in their last 14 overall.. “We all feel comfortable,” captain Joe Thornton said.. “We all like where our game is.. We can still improve in some things and we still got some games in the regular season to win.. But, yeah, we keep getting better.. It’s a perfect time for that.” One of the defeats during San Jose’s hot stretch came April 9 at Columbus.. Marian Gaborik had a goal and an assist and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 30 shots to lead the Blue Jackets to a 4-0 win.. Columbus has hosted the last three meetings with the Sharks, outscoring them 16-5 while winning each one.. San Jose, though, is 19-1-2 all-time at home versus the Blue Jackets, winning the last two by a combined 8-1 score. source: http://aol.sportingnews.com/nhl/preview/2013042118/columbus-blue-jackets–san-jose-sharks

3 keys to San Jose Sharks victory over Columbus Blue Jackets

Two games in Ohio ended a combined 10-2 in favor of the team that will be in the Eastern Conference after realignment for the 2013-14 NHL season.. The Sharks are nowhere near as desperate, no matter how many times they declare that nothing is guaranteed and they are still fighting to get in.. They are two points away from guaranteeing a finish above eighth in the Western Conference, where there will be little difference between finishing second and finishing seventh.. The good news is there is still little chance the Sharks overlook this game.. The better news is they are the best home ice team in the NHL at 16-1-5, and thus have an incentive to finish fourth to earn the advantage in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.. The best news is they are hot, going 11-2-1 since a shakeup that sent Joe Pavelski to the third line center and Douglas Murray to Pittsburgh.. Then again, Columbus is also hot.. Their five-game winning streak that started with a 4-0 win over San Jose was snapped Thursday by the Los Angeles Kings in the second of back-to-back road games.. That stretch included two road wins over playoff teams, and they had failed to get a point only four times in their previous 25 games.. Still, even without accounting for Artem Anisimov, Matt Calvert and Nikita Nikitin being out of the lineup for the visitors (plus Adrian Aucoin questionable), this one looks lopsided.. San Jose has the statistical advantage in point percentage, in the circle, shots for and against, goals for and against, on the power play and killing penalties. source: http://www.examiner.com/list/3-keys-to-san-jose-sharks-victory-over-columbus-blue-jackets
