Coyotes beat Blackhawks 3-2 in shootout

”A couple of good shots by (Seabrook), a couple of good plays,” Chicago captain Jonathan Toews said.. ”Both (power-play) units were doing some good things so it’s nice to see.” Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville also liked his team’s play with the man-advantage, adding, ”I thought we had good motion and good movement, good options, It’s nice to see some finished product.” Even if they had to settle for just one point on Saturday.. ”We have a lot of confidence we can win those tight games but sometimes it doesn’t go your way,” Toews added.. ”We’re more happy with the way we played then the result obviously.. We’ll take the good things from it and we’re going on the road this week so we’ll try and bounce back quick.” The Blackhawks dominated early as Smith made with several close-in saves, including point-blank stops on Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad to keep it scoreless.. Seabrook finally put Chicago ahead 1-0 with a power-play goal on a high screened shot with 8:40 left in the first.. He fired from the top of the left circle with Chicago’s Andrew Shaw and Phoenix’s Zbynek Michalek tussling in front of the crease.. The Blackhawks’ momentum ended abruptly 46 seconds later, when Klesla tied it a 1-all on a bouncing dump-in from center ice.. Klesla lobbed the puck toward the Chicago net from the left wing boards near the red line.. Crawford dropped to his knees, and the puck bounded over him on a short hop.. ”It’s just a bad bounce,” Crawford said.. ”There’s nothing I can do about it now.” Vrbata then gave the energized Coyotes a 2-1 lead with 5:20 left in the period, beating Crawford from the left circle on with traffic in in front of the net. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/coyotes-beat-blackhawks-3-2-033331919–nhl.html

NHL Preview: Chicago Blackhawks vs. Phoenix Coyotes

Now… The Chicago Blackhawks  find themselves in exactly the same spot as they were the last time they met the desert dogs: in the midst of a 10-game points streak and in possession of the league’s best record.  Their seven-game win streak is the best in hockey and they currently rank first in wins (34) and goals allowed (91), and second in goals scored (144) and home ice record (17-3-2).. Oh, and they’re by far the best team on the road (17-2-2) as well.. As of this moment, the team’s magic number is just five for securing the President’s trophy, which awards them home-ice all throughout the playoffs, however so many guys are in line for individual hardware that the Trophy room at the United Center might require renovation.. Both Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are in the running for the Hart Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the League’s most valuable player.. The word is they’ll split the vote with each other, but with Sidney Crosby missing so much of the season, they’ve got a legitimate shot.. Toews is also considered a near lock for the Frank J.. Selke Trophy, which is awarded to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game.. 20-year-old forward Brandon Saad is a front-runner for the Calder Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the league’s most outstanding rookie player, and defenseman Duncan Keith’s name is always in the hat for the James Norris Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.. Finally we have the goaltending duo of Corey Crawford and Ray Emery.. If they can manage to hang on to the lowest goals allowed total over these last five games, they’ll win the William M.. Jennings Trophy, which is awarded to the goalkeeper(s) having played a minimum of 25 games for the team with the fewest goals scored against it in the regular season. source: http://www.rantsports.com/nhl/2013/04/20/nhl-preview-chicago-blackhawks-vs-phoenix-coyotes/

Phoenix 0, Chicago 0

In the final attempt, Schlemko skated down the middle and cut to the left before wristing the puck past Corey Crawford to give the Coyotes the win.. With 46 points, Phoenix sits in the 11th spot in the Western Conference, but is just three points back of the Columbus Blue Jackets for eighth place with four games to play.. Rostislav Klesla and Radim Vrbata both scored for the Coyotes, who snapped a three-game slide.. Mike Smith made 36 saves in the win.. “If we want to get into the playoffs we have to win every game and this was a big one for us,” said Smith.. “It’s do-or-die right now and we have to do everything we can to win.” Brent Seabrook had both goals while Crawford posted 29 stops in the loss for the Blackhawks, who had a seven-game winning streak stopped.. “We’ve found ways to win in overtime and shootouts more often than not,” said Seabrook.. “When it comes down to the end we have the confidence that we can win games, but it just didn’t go that way for us tonight.” Chicago has 73 points on the season and has already clinched first overall in the Western Conference, and the team holds a five-point lead over Pittsburgh for first overall in the NHL.. Chicago scored on the power play 11:20 in as Seabrook’s one-timer from the top of the right circle off a feed from Nick Leddy beat Smith for a 1-0 lead.. Just 46 seconds later, Phoenix got a lucky break as Klesla’s dump in from near mid-ice bounced a few feet in front of Crawford and hopped over his glove.. The Coyotes took a 2-1 lead with 5:20 to play in the first period as Vrbata’s wrist shot from the left circle found the back of the net.. The Blackhawks tied the game at the 3:39 mark of the second on the man advantage as Patrick Kane’s pass from the right boards to the slot saw Seabrook beat Smith with a quick wrister for his eighth goal of the season. source: http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/hockey/nhl/game/Coyotes_Blackhawks/2013/04/www.usatoday.com/sportsdata/hockey/nhl/game
