Despite carrying a 10-game losing streak into the game, the Devils were able to snap the slide and move one point ahead of Philadelphia for 11th place in the East standings.. Martin Brodeur turned aside 23 shots for the 121st shutout of his career and 11th lifetime blanking of the Flyers.. It was New Jersey’s first win since March 23rd.. Ilya Bryzgalov gave up two goals on 30 shots for the Flyers, who have been shut out four times this season and twice over their last four games.. “Well you know what, it’s a disappointing season,” said Flyers captain Claude Giroux.. “There’s still a couple games left but it’s frustrating the way we played this game.. They won more battles than us, that’s the thing.” Saturday’s test is Philadelphia’s second-to-last road game of the season.. The Flyers, who are 6-15-1 as the guest, will host their next two games against Boston and the New York Islanders before capping their schedule next Saturday in Ottawa.. Carolina enters today having lost two straight, nine of 10 and 16 of its last 18 games.. “We lost pretty much every battle.” Now the Flyers face one of only three other East teams to have been eliminated from the playoff chase.. Philadelphia has won 11 of 13 in Raleigh and owns a 19-2-2 record in the last 23 meetings with Carolina, including victories in both meetings this season.. While the Hurricanes (17-23-3) showed some life Tuesday by rallying from a two-goal deficit midway through the final period, they fell 4-3 in overtime at Winnipeg for their 16th loss in 18 games.. “We haven’t got the breaks or the results that we, to be honest, we really deserve in our performance in the last three, four weeks,” coach Kirk Muller said.. “So it’s unfortunate because I’m really proud of the guys the way they’ve been battling, playing hard and playing well.” After missing Thursday’s loss because of a head injury, Jeff Skinner is expected to be a game-time decision against the Flyers.. Justin Peters has started the past six games for the Hurricanes, going 1-3-1 with a 3.33 GAA.. He’s 0-1-0 with a 4.53 in two career appearances against the Flyers but hasn’t faced them since 2010.. It’s uncertain whether Dan Ellis will be available due to soreness in his knee.. He’s 0-6-1 with a 3.74 GAA in his last eight games but hasn’t played since April 8.. Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, who took the loss Thursday, allowed six goals but stopped 69 shots in winning both meetings with Carolina this season.. Steve Mason, though, could get the start after finishing with 38 saves in a 4-2 win over the Rangers on Tuesday. source:–nhl.html

Somber Philadelphia Flyers Face Off Against Carolina Hurricanes

That season may have been really bad, but this current season will go down in franchise history as the worst season for the Flyers.. So putting all of that aside, even though they won’t see the playoffs this year, the Flyers still have a few games left to play.. On Saturday they are back on the ice, this time visiting the equally struggling Carolina Hurricanes .. The Flyers (19-22-3) may have had a pretty horrendous season, but at least they are not the Hurricanes (17-23-3).. The ‘Canes are in worse position than the Flyers are and they have two Staal brothers on the team.. Since it has not been a good year for either of these teams, they are pretty much just going to be playing for pride.. The Flyers will want to win this game to show that they can defeat a bad team, while the ‘Canes will want to win to prove they can overcome a better team.. For these reasons the teams will be at each others throats.. As Flyers fans, it’s going to be hard to root for our team in this game, especially when we know the end result.. So we should probably take a lesson from all those Edmonton Oilers fans and still cheer on our team until the very last game. source:
