We can still improve in some things and we still got some games in the regular season to win.. But, yeah, we keep getting better.. It’s a perfect time for that.” One of the defeats during San Jose’s hot stretch came April 9 at Columbus.. Marian Gaborik had a goal and an assist and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 30 shots to lead the Blue Jackets to a 4-0 win.. Columbus has hosted the last three meetings with the Sharks, outscoring them 16-5 while winning each one.. San Jose, though, is 19-1-2 all-time at home versus the Blue Jackets, winning the last two by a combined 8-1 score.. Columbus (21-17-7) had a five-game winning snapped with Thursday’s 2-1 defeat at Los Angeles, its first loss in four stops on its six-game road trip.. Despite the defeat, the Blue Jackets are locked in a tight battle with Detroit and Dallas for the West’s final playoff berth.. The franchise’s only postseason appearance came in 2008-09.. “We were just a little bit lacking on the execution (Thursday),” said defenseman Dalton Prout, who scored his first NHL goal. source:

Defense-first Blue Jackets ahead of schedule

“You all of a sudden think, ‘You know what?. It’s not going to be the same anymore — there is change in the air.’ If people want to stay they’ve got to earn it, and so people have gone to work and worked hard.” Davidson still is quick to credit some of the work Howson did before his departure.. “That Bobrovsky trade has been a very good deal for us,” he said of the summer deal that brought the goalile from the Philadelphia Flyers .. “There are things here that Scott did that were good, there’s no question, and we’re going to build off that too.. But sometimes change is necessary.” The Blue Jackets have noticed a change in their fan base.. They announced an attendance of 11,523 on March 1, their first home game after the 1-5-0 road trip.. The announced attendance for each of the past two home games has been 17,000-plus.. “The people wanted blue-collar,” Davidson said.. “Even if there was going to be a process of learning how to win as an organization, they wanted effort.. We promised that.. We didn’t promise the wins, but I promised effort, because you can control that. source:

Lack Of Power Play Scoring Could Keep Columbus Blue Jackets Out Of Playoffs

Blue Jackets PP Wisniewski

Vasquez – USA TODAY Sports As the Columbus Blue Jackets try and complete their improbable run to the playoffs, every point is precious.. The Blue Jackets only have three games left in the regular season, and need to bounce back after a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.. That loss put an end to a five-game winning streak, and also saw the team’s offense struggle for the first time in almost two weeks.. A look at the Blue Jackets’ performance this month shows many good performances, but a startling lack of power play scoring.. With as many games as the Blue Jackets have seen decided by one goal (be it in regulation, overtime or a shootout), some additional offense with the man-advantage could bring the team the extra points they need to reach the playoffs.. In nine games this month, the Blue Jackets have only scored one power play goal, and that came against the Nashville Predators on Apr.. 4.. The Blue Jackets have had 17 power play opportunities since then, but have been unable to find the back of the net.. Marian Gaborik has scored three goals in his first nine games with the Blue Jackets, but has yet to convert with the man-advantage.. Vinny Prospal and James Wisniewski lead the team with four power play goals each, while Jack Johnson has three power play goals and seven power play points.. While it’s great that their defense has had such a great contribution to their special teams efforts, the time has come for the Blue Jackets’ forwards to step up..
