Postseason Drama Brewing for Chicago Blackhawks’ Marian Hossa

Talk about a guy who “wants to play for a winner.” Check it out: Hossa started his career in 1997 with the Ottawa Senators  who are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference.  Over the course of his seven seasons there Hossa led Ottawa to the playoffs twice and was named to a pair of All-Star teams.. He also scored a career high 45 goals during the 2002-03 season and is currently fourth all-time in Senators history with 188 goals.. Hossa versus the team that drafted him in the Finals would be both compelling, and rich.. Following the lockout of 2004-05, Hossa completed a sign and trade deal with the Senators sending him to the Atlanta Thrashers for three years and $18 million.. During his tenure in Atlanta he managed to score 108 goals (good for third all-time) and in 2006–07 he set the franchise mark — which still stands — for points in a season with 100 (43 goals, 57 assists).. He also picked up another All-Star game appearance while there and led the Thrashers to their first division title and postseason appearance.. Why am I giving you information about a dominant Slovakian on a defunct team?. Simple.. The Thrashers were sold to a Canadian investors group in 2011 and are now the Winnipeg Jets .. Winners of five in a row, they’re currently tied with the New York Rangers  for the eighth-seed in the East.. With former Stanley Cup-winning Hawks Dustin Byfuglien and Andrew Ladd on the team, if they could make a run to the Finals and play Chicago the drama would be both thick, and viscous. source:

Blackhawks try to move closer to top record in clash with Preds

The Blackhawks, who last had the NHL’s best record during the 1990-91 campaign, have six games left in the regular season compared to five for Pittsburgh.. The Penguins play Friday night in Boston.. Chicago has won its last six games and will try to push that winning streak to seven against a Nashville team that is playing for pride.. The Predators have lost seven straight in regulation and have been officially eliminated from playoff contention, marking the first time the club will miss the postseason since 2009.. Nashville shouldn’t count on things getting any better tonight, considering the Predators are 0-3-1 against the Blackhawks this season and have lost five straight in the series.. Chicago has taken five of the last seven meetings in the Windy City.. Friday’s contest is the fourth meeting between the clubs this month and the final encounter of the season.. Chicago’s latest victory came Monday against the visiting Dallas Stars, who had won five in a row before getting dealt a 5-2 setback at the United Center.. Andrew Shaw broke a tie with one of Chicago’s three third-period goals and Marian Hossa sealed the club’s sixth straight victory with an empty-net tally in the final minute.. Hossa also added two assists. source:

NHL on NBCSN: Will Blackhawks stop rising Stars?

6 Comments Getty Images NBCSN’s ongoing coverage of the 2013 campaign will continue tonight when the Chicago Blackhawks host the Dallas Stars at the United Center at 8:00 p.m.. ET.. The Detroit Red Wings won last night .. Now the Stars have to respond.. Dallas had the slimmest lead on the eighth seed prior to Detroit’s win and the Stars can reclaim it again with a victory against Chicago tonight.. Beating the Blackhawks this season is a tall order, but the odds haven’t stopped Dallas lately.. How often do you see a team fully embrace the seller role in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline and still somehow make the playoffs?. The Stars dealt Brenden Morrow , Derek Roy , and Jaromir Jagr for picks and prospects and those that were left seemed to haven taken it as a challenge.. They’ve won five straight games, three on the road and four against teams that currently hold a playoff spot, to force their way back into the competition.. With three of their top forwards now playing for other teams, 22-year-old rookie Alex Chiasson has stepped up with six goals and seven points in six career games. source:
