The NHL, then, views this latest controversy as nothing new.. NHL VP of media relations Frank Brown sees this controversy as a “rite of spring,” and something that comes up in the first-round of the playoffs every April.. He said the NHL has not wavered from its stance that the tradition is against league policy for fan behavior.. “I don’t believe it’s anything new, but I’m waiting to hear back from our security.. It’s a safety issue.. You throw stuff on the ice, people get their skates caught in it, they fall down and hurt themselves.. It’s wrong.. That’s a problem,” said Brown, in a phone interview Friday afternoon.. “We have tremendous respect for the custom.. We get that part.. But not to the point of indulging improper behavior from spectators,” he said.. After our conversation, Brown sent over the following statement: “NHL security did not direct that this person be arrested, or ejected. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/nhl-vs-octopus-detroit-police-fine-red-wings-fan-500-for-toss?urn=nhl,wp2695

Detroit Red Wings: Damien Brunner Has Faded Since His Hot Start

This is a team with a negative goal differential that ranks in the bottom half of the league in goals per game.. That’s part of the reason that the Wings currently find themselves in this situation, where their streak of playoff appearances is at risk.. One player that could help turn around Detroit’s offensive woes is Damien Brunner.. After a strong start to the season, the first year player has cooled off quite a bit.. He hasn’t produced consistently at all, which has led to him serving as a healthy scratch on at least one occasion.. On the season, Brunner has 22 points, with an even split between goals and assists.. Only six of those points have come since the month of March started.. Those struggles come after a hot start that included a six-game point streak and a four-point game towards the end of February.. He’s been much quieter of late, though.. With the Red Wings in need of offense, Brunner hasn’t produced nearly as much as he was expected to.. However, one probably could have expected those struggles at some point, given that this is his first year in the league.. The Red Wings probably would have just preferred they came earlier in the season. source: http://www.rantsports.com/nhl/2013/04/16/detroit-red-wings-damien-brunner-has-faded-since-his-hot-start/

Detroit Red Wings, Goalie Jimmy Howard sign to Six-Year, $31.8 Million Deal -NHL Update

According to the news and various sources, the Red Wings signed Howard to a $31.8 million deal and extended his contract by another six years.. Currently, Jimmy Howard was on a two-year, $4.5 million deal and the 29-year-old expected to sign on another contract as soon as possible without further delaying it, something which Detroit also wanted.. “We’re extremely pleased to have Jimmy under contract for the next six seasons,” general manager Ken Holland said, according to ESPN.. “He’s entering the prime of his career and over the last four years has gained a tremendous amount of regular season and postseason experience.” “He’s developed into a top-tier NHL goaltender and is a very important part of our team moving forward,” Holland added.. “Jimmy is one of our leaders and we look forward to watching him elevate his game to the next level in a Red Wings’ sweater.” Howard was signed on to the previous two-year deal at the beginning of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and instead of wasting any more time, the Detroit Red Wings are believed to have wanted to lock him down for another six years as soon as possible.. His new six-year deal will be giving him $5.3 million every year till the 2018-2019 NHL regular season comes to an end, which is a monumental increase from the $2.25 million he is currently making.. Howard, a native of Syracuse, New York, United States, was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings as the 64th overall during round-two of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and has played a total of 228 games up until now with a .917 save percentage and 2.39 goals-against average throughout his seven-year career up until this moment.. At the moment, Howard has played in 36 games this season and holds 17 wins, 12 losses and 6 overtime deciders, along with a .920 save percentage and 2.31 goals-against average.. Detroit is just barely above the playoff line at the moment and needs to keep going if they hope of making the postseason this time around..   source: http://blogs.bettor.com/Detroit-Red-Wings,-Goalie-Jimmy-Howard-sign-to-Six-Year,-31-8-Million-Deal-NHL-Update-a214475
