Gabriel Landeskog Is the Future Of Colorado Avalanche

, , Leave a comment

Colorado was sitting in last place in the Western Conference heading into Monday’s action.. That has to be someone on the roster that fans can look to for the future for some hope.. I think that player should be Gabriel Landeskog, who is young and has shown he can score some goals if not a ton but at his early age, things will improve for him.. Landeskog is just 20-years-old and while he has had an injury-plagued season this year, he still has 14 points in 30 games.. The thing about Landeskog’s game that gives me hope for the future is the fact that he scored 22 goals last season in his rookie year after being picked second in the draft.. He is obviously not a star right now, but when you can get a player who scores over 20 goals a season, you can’t be disappointed.. The Avalanche are going to need to make several moves during the offseason to improve the product on the ice for next season, but Landeskog should be there solidly for the next decade at least.. If he can stay healthy next season and be paired for P.A.. Parenteau on the ice, I really think he can score over 25 goals during the 2013-14 season.. I’m sure there will be people who think that is a bit high and maybe think Parenteau won’t be as good next season, but the ability Landeskog has can outweigh that. source: http://www.rantsports.com/nhl/2013/04/15/gabriel-landeskog-is-the-future-of-colorado-avalanche/

Blue Jackets rally to beat Avalanche in OT

Foligno had gone eight games without a goal before he finished off a 2-on-1 rush when he fired the puck between goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere ‘s pads from inside the right circle.. “I have a bad habit of always looking for the pass first,” Foligno said.. “They always say, look for the shot and if there’s none there to throw a pass over.. I was looking for [Umberger] and he wasn’t open.. I just figured I’d try to shoot five-hole and catch him before he went down.. Luckily it was able to squeak through his legs.” Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky , who made 29 saves, robbed Gabriel Landeskog on a shorthanded breakaway 50 seconds into overtime while Avalanche defenseman Shane O’Brien was serving an elbowing penalty that started with 57.3 seconds left in regulation.. “Big-time save,” Foligno said.. “That’s what Bob does.. I mean, he’s the MVP of this team.. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that.. He makes huge saves and you need that. source: http://www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=2012020629&cmpid=nhl-twt

Colorado Avalanche Will Retire Adam Foote’s Jersey Next Season

52 jersey and raise it to the rafters of the Pepsi Center.. Foote played for the Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques in all but two of his 19 NHL seasons, coming to the organization as a second round pick in the 1989 draft.. The Avalanche have previously retired the numbers of Ray Bourque, Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg and Patrick Roy.. Foote was a member of Stanley Cup championship teams in 1996 and 2001, and served as team captain from 2009-2011.. He played more than 1150 games and finished his career with 66 goals and 308 points.. Foote also played for the Columbus Blue Jackets , serving as their captain from 2005-08.. His best years for the Avalanche came from 2002-2004, as Foote scored a career-high 11 goals and had 31 points during the 2002-03 season before scoring eight goals and registering 30 points the following season.. In addition to his success with the Avalanche, Foote also represented Canada on the international stage several times.. He won a gold medal at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City and won a World Cup championship in 2004.. The honor is a great move by the Avalanche, especially since they have already retired the jersey of Bourque, who only played for the franchise for one full season.. It will also give fans a chance to reflect on happier times, since this season has been a complete disappointment.. The jersey retirement ceremony could be the last for the team for quite a while unless they decide to also honor Milan Hejduk after he hangs up his skates. source: http://www.rantsports.com/nhl/2013/04/14/colorado-avalanche-will-retire-adam-footes-jersey-next-season/

Game 43 Recap: Avalanche play their hearts out, but fall to Blue Jackets in OT 4-3

Both teams excelled at creating those chances, as well as thwarting them.. If asked, there’s no way I could pick any stars during that period.. Side note: I’m not sure if it was the emptiness of the arena or that the teams were talking to each other more than usual, but there was so much chatter.. It was fantastic.. Oh, and who the hell is this Avalanche team?. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s Columbus, but wow.. Hungry hungry hippos out there, and I don’t just mean Fatty McGuinn.. The second period started exactly where the first left off, feeling more and more like a playoff game.. Moreover, I haven’t seen the Pepsi Center ice this fast in quite a while.. The Avs took advantage of it for the first ten minutes, interrupting outlet moves by the Blue Jackets, quickly turning the play back the other direction, and dominating like bosses.. One of the best chances up to this point was generated by John Mitchell who came screaming up the left side, going hard to the net.. Shot, rebounds, pucks bouncing over sticks, and a stop by Bobrovsky kept the score at zip all. source: http://www.milehighhockey.com/2013/4/15/4228942/2013-nhl-avalanche-blue-jackets-4-3-overtime
