The win left the Stars two points out of eighth place with eight games remaining in the season.. “We’re not getting too far ahead of ourselves.. Every game is a battle and every day we are focused and we are just trying to claw ourselves into one of those top eight spots,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan.. “The last couple of weeks the guys have felt people have written them off and we haven’t like that very much.. We just keep playing for each other in that locker room.” With eighth-place Detroit losing in a shootout at Chicago Friday night and ninth-place Phoenix losing in overtime at Calgary, the Stars (20-17-3) could move into the top eight with a win over San Jose at American Airlines Center on Saturday.. “It just seems like everyone is pulling on the same rope.. It seems like we’re firing on all cylinders,” said Stars center Vernon Fiddler , who had two assists.. “We still have to get better.. I don’t think the second and third periods were the greatest, but ultimately we got the two points.. We have to worry about San Jose now tomorrow.” source:

Ray Whitney Proving To Be A Key Piece Of Dallas Stars’ Success

Heading into the final stretch of games in the regular season, they remain in the hunt for a playoff spot, after coming into the season as one of the biggest laughingstocks in all of sports.. There have been no shortage of contributors for the Blue Jackets this season, none bigger than Sergei Bobrovsky between the pipes.. But he’s not the only first year Jacket helping this club out. Artem Anisimov, acquired in the Rick Nash trade, is doing his part as well.. Anisimov has been held back a bit by injuries, including a concussion earlier this year, but he’s come on with the Blue Jackets, particularly of late.. As Columbus continues to defy logic and remain in the playoff race, Anisimov is starting to produce on a consistent basis.. In 33 games with the Blue Jackets this year, Anisimov has 18 points.. That’s the highest scoring rate of his career, though it’s by a slim margin.. He has 11 goals to seven assists, including three game-winning goals.. He’s also winning over 48 percent of his draws, which is the best clip of his career.. Since going five games without a point in the middle of March, Anisimov has points in eight of his last 11 games.. That stretch includes a pair of multi-point games and only four regulation losses for Columbus. source:

He has been good in the AHL this season, with scouts saying he has displayed good play in both ends.. He’s a smart, hard-working player who may not be blessed with a ton of skill but his very good offensive instincts could potentially make him an above-average regular in the NHL.. Hackett is a decent goalie prospect with good athletic skills who became more expendable for Minnesota with the great play of fellow young goaltender Darcy Kuemper .. Larsson joins a good emerging corps of young forwards in Buffalo.. Cody Hodgson , Marcus Foligno , Mikhail Grigorenko , Brian Flynn and Luke Adam are among those who have played in the NHL this year, with other top prospects such as Zemgus Girgensons and Daniel Catenacci projected to be in Buffalo down the line.. Larsson is the best of the two prospects going to Buffalo, is close to NHL-ready and in terms of prospect value is close to a player like Girgensons, who was a first round pick for Buffalo last summer.. Hackett still needs development time, plus he may have to battle for ice time even in Rochester — Buffalo’s AHL affiliate — as their goaltender, David Leggio, is one of the A’s top goalies.. Sting of North Stars departure remains 20 years later

People were upset.. By no means were the fans sending the North Stars off with good spirits.” The death of the North Stars came 26 years after they were born with six other franchises in 1967.. In between, they went to the Stanley Cup Playoffs 17 times and the Stanley Cup Final twice (lost both in 1981 and 1991), but they didn’t capture a championship and won only 758 of their 2,062 games played.. Shrinking attendance despite low ticket costs and the inability to move the team into a new local arena were two of the reasons Green gave for relocating the franchise to Dallas.. “College hockey in Minnesota was unbelievable and they should have supported a team,” former North Star and Hockey Hall of Fame member Dino Ciccarelli told “It was a great hockey team and it’s too bad because so many fans were in love with the game and the team.. It’s too bad, but it’s nice to see the League back there again.” The blow of losing the North Stars was indeed softened seven years later, when the NHL returned to Minnesota in the form of the Minnesota Wild .. However, the North Stars were not and still aren’t forgotten.. They never will be.. They meant more to the die-hard fans in the Minnesota market than just wins and losses and playoff appearances.. They were an attraction in the winter, when hockey buzzes in Minnesota like basketball does in Indiana. source:

NHL Death Watch: Dallas Stars surging; Avalanche near death

8-seeded Detroit Red Wings .. They didn’t play well, writes Mike Heika, but they got it done vs.. Nashville: Bottom line, the Stars did what they had to do Friday.. They pushed the dream forward and won their fourth straight game.. They made Saturday’s contest vs.. San Jose that much more important.. The Sharks have a 21-12-7 record, good for 49 points, so the Stars probably aren’t going to catch them.. But they can catch somebody if they keep winning.. The Stars are 20-17-3, good for 43 points.. They are two points behind eighth place Detroit with one game in hand.. They have a one-game lead on the first tiebreaker (Regulation or Overtime Wins).. They are sitting pretty. source:–nhl.html
