Fantasy Hockey: Nail Yakupov is a stud; Mikko Koivu is a dud

And that season he set a career high in points with 49.. The moral of the story is, don’t panic.. The Wire…. Mostly short-term grabs here, but as always some potential steals…. Vernon Fiddler, Dallas Stars (4-2-5-7, plus-3, 0 PIM, 6 SOG) – Surprisingly, it hasn’t been Cody Eakin who has filled the void left by the Derek Roy trade – it’s been Fiddler on the Roof.. Eakin has but one assist in those games – and his ice time has surged.. Alex Chiasson, Dallas Stars (3-3-1-4, plus-2, 0 PIM, 6 SOG) – The 6-4 rookie has four NHL games to his name, but he’s made the most of them.. His ice time is still being carefully held in check but so far he’s doing everything offensively that Jaromir Jagr was doing with that roster spot.. Josh Bailey, New York Islanders (12-5-4-9, plus-6, 2 PIM, 25 SOG) – For a few years now, the Islanders have had future potential, but little in the way of current on-ice results.. Is it coming together finally?. Oilers fans take heart.. Jack Hillen, Washington Capitals (6-1-4-5, plus-7, 0 PIM, 8 SOG) – Even if the points stop rolling in, at the very least Hillen will help your plus/minus. source: http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/fantasy-hockey-nail-yakupov-stud-mikko-koivu-dud-162902461–nhl.html

NHL Game Summary – Vancouver at Calgary

Mason Raymond, Alexandre Burrows and Daniel Sedin each scored once, while Roberto Luongo stopped 40 shots for the Canucks, who have won four straight to push their lead to six points over the Minnesota Wild atop the Northwest Division.. “He was really, really good,” Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault said of Luongo.. “He looked really focused, really confident.. He had great rebound control.. He played a solid game.” Curtis Glencross scored the lone Calgary goal, while Miikka Kiprusoff allowed all four goals on 29 shots for the Flames, who have lost six of their last seven games.. With the game locked at 1-1 entering the final frame, Vancouver seized control with three goals in just under five minutes late in the third period.. The first came at the 12:37 mark when Andrew Ebbett won a scrum behind the net and threw a centering feed in front for Lapierre, who pounded the puck past Kiprusoff for a 2-1 lead.. Vancouver added an insurance goal just under three minutes later when Raymond batted a rebound out of mid-air and into the back of the net for a 3-1 edge.. After Calgary defenseman Mark Giordano was whistled for hooking at the 16:22 mark, Sedin capped the offensive outburst with his 11th marker of the season to give the Canucks a 4-1 lead with 2:33 left in the contest.. “We generated lots of great chances,” Calgary coach Bob Hartley said.. “It’s unfortunate, tough break with around seven minutes to go.. That’s the kind of team they have, they capitalize on it.” Glencross provided the Flames with a 1-0 lead late in the first when his wrister from between the circles snuck past Luongo, but Burrows answered just 1:04 later when he pounded home a rebound from in front. source: http://www.thescore.com/nhl/articles/804769-nhl-game-summary-vancouver-at-calgary

Game Story: Vancouver Canucks 4, Calgary Flames 1

Photograph by: Colleen De Neve , Calgary Herald THREE STARS 1.. Roberto Luongo, Canucks — With Cory Schneider out with flu and U of C goalie Dustin Butler playing caddy, Bobby Lou shuts the door until his mates turn on the offensive jets late.. 2.. Max Reinhart, Flames — Registers first NHL point, a helper, and tests Roberto Luongo four times in the second period alone.. Noticeable, which is what they’re always looking for from a freshman.. 3.. Max Lapierre, Canucks — Ever industrious, the super pest really ticks Flames off with game winner 12 and a half minutes into the third period.. WHY THE FLAMES LOST Because they couldn’t Canuck ‘tender Roberto Luongo more than once despite their share of shots, and wilted badly in the final 10 minutes when Vancouver’s class takes over.. THE NOT-SO-BIG HIT In a divisional-rivalry game woefully short on seismic smacks, Curtis Glencross lines up Canucks RW Dale Weise along the woodwork but winds up getting the worst of things.. THE BIG SAVE With nine minutes left in the first period, Flame G Miikka Kiprusoff blunts down a Keith Ballard wrister with his blocker but the burly Tom Sesito roars in and forces the Finn to a sharp save as the rebound lay tantalizingly in the crease..
