But I think we’ve done a great job of staying focused and staying composed, understanding that we control what’s going forward with us.” The Islanders have gotten a boost from the play of Nabokov.. Since March 24, he has stopped 146 of 158 shots, a .924 save percentage, going 6-1-1 with one shutout.. “We played like we wanted it more — I think that’s why we got the two points,” Nabokov said.. “Everything is positive right now, but you can’t get carried away because you know that it’s such a fight for the playoffs with eight games left.. You can find yourself very quickly the other way.. You just want to keep the focus and intensity at the same level, win or lose.” The Islanders snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Flyers at the Coliseum and improved to 7-1-1 in their past nine games overall.. Jakub Voracek scored the goal for the Flyers (17-19-3), who remained 13th in the East, five points out of eighth place.. Goaltender Steve Mason , acquired at the NHL Trade Deadline from the Columbus Blue Jackets, made 28 saves.. “We have to win a lot of games in a row now,” Flyers captain Claude Giroux said.. “We need to come together as a team and we know we can do it.. It’s about putting the work in — the hours — and actually doing it right.. “We’re a good team. source:

NHL announces partnership to promote inclusiveness

“While we believe that our actions in the past have shown our support for the LGBT community, we are delighted to reaffirm through this joint venture with the NHL Players’ Association that the official policy of the NHL is one of inclusion on the ice, in our locker rooms and in the stands.” The league said its official partnership with You Can Play includes a significant commitment to education and training for teams, players, media and fans, plus the continued production and broadcast of public service announcements.. “I just think this comes down to doing the right thing,” NHL Players Executive Director Donald Fehr told USA TODAY Sports.. He said the joint agreement simply re-affirms the idea that NHL players should only be evaluated by what they do on the ice.. “Other matters aren’t relevant for that purpose,” Fehr said.. He doesn’t take any particular pride in the NHL being first with this kind of formal agreement: “I don’t think you should be ranking people in terms of first or second.. I’m just pleased that we were able to do it and that we have the support of the players.” Fehr said the resolution expands the commitment to providing an inclusive work environment: “And if there are matters which arise, you can have some education.. And if there are some individuals who need assistance you have an organization that is in a position to provide it.” The agreement specifies that You Can Play will conduct seminars at the NHL’s rookie symposium on LGBT issues and that the organization will make its resources and personnel available to individual teams as desired.. The league and the players association will also work to integrate You Can Play principles into the NHL’s Behavioral Health Program, which would enable players to seek counseling, or ask questions on matters of sexual orientation, on a confidential basis.. “This partnership solidifies the message that the hockey community believes in fairness and equality for everyone,” Winnipeg Jets defenseman Ron Hainsey said in a statement.. Players who have appeared in public service announcements include Rick Nash and Brian Boyle of the New York Rangers and Scott Hartnell of the Philadelphia Flyers. source:

Philadelphia Flyers Rumors: Ilya Bryzgalov Benched For Sleeping During Meeting

Philadelphia Flyers Ilya Bryzgalov

97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia and both report from a source that this is the case.. The Flyers reported that Mason was getting the start much earlier than normal, even before their morning skate, so Coach Peter Laviolette must have had a good reason to make the decision before seeing either goalie warm-up.. Veteran defenseman Kimmo Timonen has been a small campaign to clear Bryz’ name, telling media “No, that’s not true…In the NHL , have you ever heard of anyone sleeping in a meeting?. Yeah, that’s a scoop.” Bryzgalov is not helping his case, telling CSNPhilly that he was “tired” and that is why he didn’t play yesterday.. He is only in his second year of a nine-year deal that pays the Russian $51 million.. When asked about the potential buyout the team may make in order to clear his gigantic contract, he told the Courier Post “To be honest, I don’t care.. Really, I don’t care.. I have no control on this, so why should I care?” The Flyers return home on Thursday after a road trip that resulted in back-to-back losses, something that almost certainly has put the final nail in the coffin that is their playoff hopes.. The team will need an unbeatable goaltender over the few remaining games if they hope to claw their way in, but with Mason giving up four in his debut and Bryzgalov potentially sleeping his way through the end of season, things are not looking good. source:

Philadelphia Flyers’ Goalie Drama Continues With Ilya Bryzgalov, Steve Mason

Ilya Bryzgalov fell asleep during a meeting

Unfortunately, both games the new goalie has played in have been Flyers losses.. However, don’t count that against Mason so quickly.. He looked solid in net on Tuesday, but you can’t win games without a bit of defense.. The team played with no heart and the defense gave him no help in front of the net.. How can you expect the team to win if they aren’t playing like they even want to be there?. It’s been rumored that the Flyers want to amnesty Bryzgalov and that’s why Mason was brought in.. I highly doubt that will happen, but the Flyers need to be looking at the draft and what’s in store for them next year.. It’s been a team effort to fail this season, so to amnesty Bryzgalov may not be in the Flyers best interests.. There needs to be a change for the entire team not just one position.. However, this is Philadelphia so be prepared for anything. source:

Senators-Flyers Preview

Offense has continued to be an issue for Ottawa (19-14-6).. Guillaume Latendresse’s power-play goal Tuesday was the team’s first in 21 chances during the losing streak, and the Senators rank in the bottom five of the league with 96 goals overall.. “There’s nothing real positive about it at all,” coach Paul MacLean said.. “We haven’t won a game in it seems like forever.. The league is hard, winning is hard to do.. And we haven’t played hard enough in the last five games to produce more than what we say is good opportunities.. “We need to do more.. Not a whole lot more, but we need to do a little bit more.” The Senators might catch a break against a Flyers team that’s struggling as well as they attempt to avoid missing the playoffs for the first time in six years.. Philadelphia (17-19-3) has lost 4-1 in back-to-back games, falling to the surging New York Islanders on Tuesday.. The Flyers had won four in a row, but the two losses since have left them 12th in the East.. “We still have nine games to play,” forward Simon Gagne said. source:–philadelphia-flyers
