NHL Power Rankings: Canadiens with decided edge over Bruins

The Canadiens took the regular season series with the rival Bruins, 3-1.

1) – Fitting, for the team that has led the NHL in points wire-to-wire this season, the Blackhawks were the first club to clinch a playoff spot on Sunday.. The only thing that would worry me if I were a Blackhawks fan is that it looks like they are going to rotate goaltenders this postseason, which sounds like a recipe for disaster.. 2) Pittsburgh Penguins (29-10-0, previous No.. 2) – Even without the NHL’s best player in the lineup – Sidney Crosby (broken jaw) – the Penguins are still humming along.. They are 8-2-0 in their last 10 games and it looks like the Eastern Conference will go through the Steel City in the playoffs.. 3) Anaheim Ducks (27-8-5, previous No.. 4) – Chicago’s main threat in the Western Conference looks pretty formidable except that center Ryan Getzlaf (13 goals, 30 assists) has missed the last two games with the always mysterious “lower body injury.” Anaheim has won those two contests without its top line center and playmaker but it won’t continue to roll if he’s out for a long period of time.. 4) Montreal Canadiens (25-8-5, previous No.. 3) – Montreal hasn’t clinched the Northeast Division yet but by beating Boston, 2-1, on Saturday, it completed a 3-1 season series triumph against its bitter rivals and put themselves in the driver’s seat.. The win did have its toll though as promising young defenseman Alexei Emelin suffered a season-ending knee injury when he tried to line up Bruins winger Milan Lucic. source: http://www.metro.us/philadelphia/sports/nhl/2013/04/10/nhl-power-rankings-canadiens-with-decided-edge-over-bruins/

Hossa’s goal enough as Blackhawks blank Wild

Awesome guys off the ice.. They make you feel welcome right away.. So it was great to be out there.. I think we’re a good team, with or without me.” The first team in the NHL this season to clinch a spot in the playoffs, the Blackhawks outshot the Wild 31-20 to move one step closer to securing the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs.. They are five points ahead of second-place Anaheim and have a game in hand over the Ducks.. The Blackhawks (30-5-4) are 16-2-2 on the road, by far the best mark in the league.. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville gave Emery the start again over Corey Crawford .. He said Crawford is 100 percent healthy.. The way his team has been playing, though, picking the wrong goalie would be hard to do.. “I think there’s a lot of confidence, and we’re excited for whoever is in net,” said star Patrick Kane .. “I think right now we’re pretty confident in our team. source: http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/gametracker/recap/NHL_20130409_CHI@MIN/hossas-goal-enough-as-blackhawks-blank-wild

Wild welcome mighty Blackhawks

“We obviously wanted to stay in the spot we’re in in the standings,” Toews said, “But first and foremost, our goal coming in every season is making the playoffs.” With 62 points, the Blackhawks are three ahead of the Anaheim Ducks for first place in the Western Conference and four up on the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most points in the NHL.. Chicago, which last won the Central Division during its Stanley Cup-winning campaign in 2009-10, is 18 points ahead of the St.. Louis Blues for first place in the division.. With such a big lead in the standings, the Blackhawks haven’t had to rush back forward Patrick Sharp, who has missed the last 14 games with a shoulder injury.. Dave Bolland, meanwhile, sat out his second game in a row on Sunday because of lower body ailment.. The Wild are also in the hunt for a division title as they sit second in the Northwest standings with 46 points.. That is four back of the Vancouver Canucks, but Minnesota has a game in hand.. The Canucks are idle on Tuesday after beating visiting Phoenix 2-0 on Monday.. The Wild snapped a three-game slide on Sunday by salvaging the finale of a three-game trip with a 3-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.. Ryan Suter and Charlie Coyle both had power-play goals, while Jason Pominville added a goal and an assist.. Pominville picked up his first points with the Wild in his second game since being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres prior to Wednesday’s trade deadline.. Niklas Backstrom made the offensive support stand up with 24 saves, notching his second shutout of the season and 28th of his career. source: http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2013/04/09/wild-welcome-mighty-blackhawks/

Blackhawks 1, Wild 0

”I think there’s a lot of confidence, and we’re excited for whoever is in net,” said star Patrick Kane .. ”I think right now we’re pretty confident in our team.. Just try to keep getting better.” The Wild (22-15-2) put themselves in prime position for a spot in the postseason for the first time in five years by going a franchise-best 11-4 in March, but they are far from safe with just a five-point edge over ninth-place Dallas and Columbus.. Six of the Wild’s final nine games are against teams currently below the playoff cut.. ”We’ve still got some pretty good players here,” Wild star Zach Parise said.. ”We should be able to get some sustained pressure.. We did the other night in Columbus.. But that’s a team that plays really well defensively.. I think they’ve given up the least amount of shots.. It’s tough to get anything consistently going.” They had their chances, particularly when Cal Clutterbuck got his rebound attempt behind Emery but not enough to nudge it past the goal line.. Clutterbuck’s second swing missed, and Emery gained control. source: http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/Blackhawks-1-Wild-0-47919239
