Paul, MN (Sports Network) – Marian Hossa scored an unassisted goal in the second period, and Ray Emery made it hold up, as the playoff-bound Chicago Blackhawks eked past the Minnesota Wild, 1-0, at Xcel Energy Center.. Emery made 20 saves to post his third shutout in his past five starts, and the Central Division-leading Blackhawks improved to 5-0-1 in their last six games.. On a day it was announced forward Dany Heatley will miss the rest of the season after undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery, the Wild lost for the fourth time in the last five games.. Niklas Backstrom’s 30 saves went for naught, though Minnesota is still in the playoff race as the No.. 7 seed in the Western Conference.. “(Chicago) is a team that plays well defensively, so it was tough to get anything consistently going,” Wild Forward Zach Parise said.. The Wild were done in by one mistake late in the middle stanza, as Clayton Stoner telegraphed his outlet pass in the defensive zone.. Hossa crept in from the blue line, picked off the ill-advised feed and beat Backstrom with a slap shot between the pads with 4:46 remaining in the stanza.. “The timing was right,” Hossa said.. “The puck hit me basically on the tape.” Emery stopped 14 saves over the first two periods and added six stops in the final 20 minutes to complete the shutout.. { “asset_collection”: [], “aws”: “”, “aws_id”: “”, “blogname”: “”, “contenttype”:” “, “seotitletag”: “”, “templatename”: “fronts/default”, “videoincluded”:”” } source: http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/hockey/nhl/game/Blackhawks_Wild/2013/04/www.usatoday.com/sportsdata/hockey/nhl/www.usatoday.com/sportsdata/hockey/nhl/game

Blackhawks 5, Predators 3

Rinne made 35 saves.. The Predators (15-17-8) entered the game desperate for a win and two points.. Twelfth in the Western Conference, they have only eight games remaining and trail eighth-place Detroit, the last playoff team at the moment, by five points with four teams to climb past.. NOTES: Spaling’s multiple-point game broke an eight-game pointless streak and was only his second such game of the year (one goal, one assist vs.. Minnesota on Jan.. 22).. …. Nashville’s left wing Gabriel Bourque and center Paul Gaustad missed the game with upper-body injuries.. Bourque was out for the fourth straight game since being crunched by the Blackhawks’ Dan Carcillo on Monday.. Chicago Blackhawks: Five Teams to Fear in The Eastern Conference

If playboy goalie Henrik Lundqvist catches fire the way the Kings’ Jonathan Quick did last season, we could easily see another seven or eight seed playing in June.. The Habs are finally back in the hunt for Lord Stanley Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports 3.. The Montreal Canadiens The Canadiens have a staggering 24 Stanley Cups and are to hockey what the New York Yankees are to baseball—translation: everybody hates them.. They haven’t had a whiff of the Cup since they won it in 1992-93, however it appears the swagger has returned.. If Michael Ryder and P.K.. Subban can keep this offense flowing, their fourth ranked defense should give them a good shot to bring Lord Stanley north of the border for the first time in 20 years.. Previous Next 5 of 6 Boston’s top ranked defense could put them back in the Finals for the second time in three years Greg M.. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports 2.. The Boston Bruins The Bruins find themselves at number two on my list only because they’re 11-9 in one goal games.. Their 81 goals allowed make them the only team better than the Hawks in this category (83) and yet their inability to hang on in the tight ones—specifically against arch rival Montreal—makes me wonder if they can grab their second cup in three years. source: http://www.rantsports.com/nhl/2013/04/09/chicago-blackhawks-five-teams-to-fear-in-the-eastern-conference/

6 NHL Teams in Most Need of a Winning Streak Before the Playoffs Start

Scoring goals is the key to the New York Rangers winning consistently.. Head coach John Tortorella knows that he is going to get adequate shot-blocking from his defense and superior goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist.. What he doesn’t know is if his team will get enough goal scoring.. With the season headed down the home stretch, the Rangers are in desperate position.. They were favored to win the Eastern Conference at the start of the season, but they are in the eighth spot with nine games left to play.. The Rangers want to climb in the standings—fifth place is not out of reach—but they also need to hold off teams like the Winnipeg Jets and New Jersey Devils to hold on to a playoff spot.. They need to close out the season on a winning streak.. Minnesota Wild The Minnesota Wild are a much-improved team in 2013.. They have been dominant in spurts and had stolen away first place from the Vancouver Canucks in the Northwest Division in March.. The Wild are no longer in first place.. As well as they have played this year, the Wild still have not clinched a playoff spot.. They need to go back on a hot streak to clinch a postseason spot and possibly reengage the Canucks. source: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1599810-6-nhl-teams-in-most-need-of-a-winning-streak-before-the-playoffs-start
