Calgary Flames Have Something In Defenseman T.J. Brodie

, , Leave a comment

Brodie is in his second full season in the league.. He posted 14 points in 54 games with Calgary last season, including a pair of goals to go along with his 12 assists.. Nearly half of his points came on the power play, with six of his 14 coming when the Flames were on the man advantage.. This season, Brodie is at eight points on the year.. If it were a full season, he’d be on pace to top his previous career high for points.. He’s not exactly the total package on defense, but can be an asset for this team in the future.. Brodie isn’t a physical guy.. He’s 6’1″, but doesn’t have a ton of meat on that frame, which is why he only has 17 hits in 36 games this year.. What he is is an offensive defenseman.. He can move the puck well and has a terrific shot from the point. source: http://www.rantsports.com/nhl/2013/04/08/calgary-flames-have-something-in-defenseman-t-j-brodie/

Canucks top line shines, hands Flames another loss

It didn’t take long for him to earn No.. 601.. On a power play late in the second period, Edler whipped a one-timer from the point behind a screened Kiprusoff after Henrik Sedin won the faceoff.. Henrik Sedin has 782 points, moving him into 154th on the NHL’s career list – one ahead of Alexei Yashin and four behind Claude Lemieux.. “Great player,” Vigneault said.. “He’s a great passer.. Without a doubt, him and his brother have something real good going, and Burr complements them real well.. “Henrik’s our captain, he’s a great player.. I’m real happy for him.” The Flames had a strong third period, but Tanguay was the only one to beat Schneider.. The veteran forward moved in on a breakaway midway through the period and beat Schneider with a pretty backhand deke between the legs.. Henrik Sedin scored his 11th goal of the season with 11 seconds remaining. source: http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/gametracker/recap/NHL_20130406_CGY@VAN/canucks-top-line-shines-hands-flames-another-loss

Calgary Flames Have Finally Hit Rock Bottom

Matt Stajan Flames

The Flames are playing for little more than pride at this point, and are a much different team than when the current slide started.. Captain Jarome Iginla and top defenseman Jay Bouwmeester were sent away at the trade deadline, and it appears goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff could retire at the end of the season.. Up until now, the Flames had not lost more than three consecutive games (three times) at any point during the season.. The Flames haven’t won since Mar.. 27, and have been outscored 25-10 over the last five games.. They put up a valiant effort in a 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Friday, but that was without a doubt their closest game in the losing streak.. Kiprusoff’s numbers continue to go from bad to worse, and backup Joey MacDonald has also struggled.. Kiprusoff is now 6-12-2 on the season, with a career-worst 3.58 goals-against average and an abysmal .873 save percentage.. MacDonald is 4-6-1 with a 3.22 goals-against average, and hit his lowest point of the season on Wednesday, as he allowed eight goals to the Edmonton Oilers while facing 39 shots.. Since the Flames didn’t move Kiprusoff, he’s likely in line to start almost all of their remaining 11 games. source: http://www.rantsports.com/nhl/2013/04/07/calgary-flames-have-finally-hit-rock-bottom/

Calgary 3, Colorado 1

Roman Cervenka and Alex Tanguay each scored once, while Joey MacDonald made 39 saves to help the Flames snap a 13-game road losing streak (0-12-1).. “It’s been a long time,” MacDonald said of his team’s road woes.. “We kept possession of the puck and did the small things we had to do.” Brad Malone’s first career goal stood as Colorado’s lone marker, while Jean- Sebastien Giguere gave up all three goals on 34 shots for the Avs, who have lost five straight and sit last in the NHL with 29 points.. After a scoreless first frame, Colorado broke through early in the second when Tyson Barrie fired a shot from the right point that Malone got his stick on in front and re-directed high over the shoulder of MacDonald for a 1-0 lead at the 1:45 mark of the stanza.. Calgary pulled even just past the midpoint of the period when Mark Giordano flipped a shot on net from just above the right circle that deflected off Cervenka in front and slipped past Giguere to make it 1-1 at the 10:36 mark.. The Flames then jumped in front with just over three minutes left when Roman Horak recovered a loose puck below the Colorado goal line before finding a cutting Cammalleri and the Calgary center pounded home a one-timer from in front to give the Flames a 2-1 lead at the 16:53 mark.. A hooking penalty against Cervenka at the 15:24 mark of the third gave the Avalanche a late power-play opportunity, but Tanguay buried a short-handed marker just over a minute later to end the Avalanche’s comeback bid.. MacDonald made 14 saves over the final 20 minutes to keep the Flames in front.. “Give their goalie credit, he played a great game,” Colorado center Matt Duchene admitted.. “We had chances all night long and we just couldn’t convert.” { “asset_collection”: [], “aws”: “”, “aws_id”: “”, “blogname”: “”, “contenttype”:” “, “seotitletag”: “”, “templatename”: “fronts/default”, “videoincluded”:”” } source: http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/hockey/nhl/game/Flames_Avalanche/2013/04/www.usatoday.com/sportsdata/hockey/nhl/game
