Phoenix Coyotes Were Wise To Hang On To Defenseman Keith Yandle

Phoenix Coyotes Keith Yandle

The Coyotes have won two straight games behind two goals and four points from Yandle, and could be poised to make a jump in the standings when goaltender Mike Smith returns to action on Saturday night.. The Coyotes got an impressive 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, and Yandle had two assists.. In a Tuesday night win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, the veteran defenseman had two goals.. His eight goals and 23 points now lead the way for the Coyotes, who are fortunate to have Yandle signed through the 2015-16 season.. Phoenix has a lot of cap space to work with, and should be able to put a contender on the ice for the next few seasons.. While not every member of the Coyotes defense has delivered this season, Yandle has been helped by the emergence of Oliver Ekman-Larsson as a legitimate top-two defender.. Ekman-Larsson is fourth on the team with three goals and 19 points in just his third season as a pro.. Yandle has also proven to be one of the team’s best assets on the power play, as four of his goals have come with the man-advantage.. With Smith set to return, the Coyotes have 11 games to prove that they can be a playoff-caliber team.. With Yandle still in the fold, they definitely have a chance..
